Post-Mission Care

Gru pulled his wife's tiny turquoise car into the AVL headquarters.  As the water drained out of the room and swirled around them, he looked at his wife.  She looked back at him, and gave him a small smile.  They had just returned from a mission, and they were both exhausted.  The mission overall was a success, but it had been a close call.  They had several narrow escapes.

As soon as the room had been completely drained of all the ocean water, the couple got out of their car, and walked through the door on the side of the room.  They both knew that Silas would want to discuss the mission with them, but they still had a little time before they needed to report.

They walked into the weapons department, and began to unload their tools.  They both laid down a majority of their weapons, but kept a couple of essentials.  For example, Lucy liked to keep her lipstick taser with her, and Gru didn't go anywhere without his freeze ray.

Gru kept looking at his wife.  Something seemed off.  She was normally very happy and bubbly, but she hadn't said anything since they had returned.  He reached out and grabbed her hand.  Then he looked down, and saw that her coat sleeve was stained with a dark red hue.

"Lucy!" He exclaimed.  "Your arm!  It's bleeding!  I didn't even notice!"

She looked down at her wound.

"Yeah.  I um, got scraped.  It's not bad, though.  I was just going to patch it up on my own.  I didn't want to worry you."  She said, her face still downcast.

There was always a first aid kit on of the shelves with the other weapons.  He grabbed it, and gently rolled up the sleeve of her coat.

"It's not deep.  It just needs some ointment and a bandage."  He said, as he tended to her.  Something still seemed off.  It was perfectly normal for Lucy to get hurt in some of their missions, but she never tried to hide it.  She always let him tend to it, because they both knew that he had the steadier hands.

He finished by securing the bandage around her arm.

"What else is wrong?"  He asked, cupping her face with his hand.

She finally looked at him, and he saw that she had tears in her eyes.

"We barely made it out of there."  She began.  "This was one of my worst performances.  If I had been more on my game, we could've easily completed this mission."

"But we did complete it."  He said, looking straight at her.  "We got out with only a minor wound."  He gestured to her arm.  "Everyone has their days.  We will both have our times when we don't do well.  We worked together, and we came out on top.  If you hadn't been there, I don't think that I would've been able to do that."

He pulled her into him, and held her tight.

"Thank you, Gru."  She whispered.
