Chaptero Uno:

Niall stuffed his hands into his pockets. He trudged down the few stairs that led down to the hill where he and the boys had shot clips for the One Thing video. He wasn’t quite sure why he had chosen to return here…but he felt like something was pulling him there. He heaved a sigh of relief. It wasn’t that he hated his job…it was his dream come true. But finally he was alone without haunting fans and press hovering over him, and it felt good to be back in his own mind.

He slowly walked along the grass, not caring to pick up his feet, and sang softly to himself lyrics to Breakeven by The Script. It had been stuck in his head all day.

Suddenly, his attention was grabbed by the familiar sound of a football being kicked around. He squinted against the sun, bringing his hand over his eyes as a shield, and looked up the hill. On top was a girl with dark brown hair wearing a yellow sundress, dribbling a football between her feet.

Niall smirked and began up the hill at an angle she would not be able to see him at. As he closed distance between them, he heard her humming a familiar tune that he could not quite place. She turned sharply and kicked the ball away from her straight towards Niall.

As the ball slowed at his feet he kicked it lightly back at her, figuring she wouldn’t want to dive for a fast kick in her dress. With her face turned to the ground, he could see her eyes grow wide as the ball magically returned to her.

She looked up at him, sighing in relief. He was glad to have reassured her that she was not crazy.

“Mind if I join?” He chuckled lightly, casting a grin.

“Not at all,” she smiled back politely. He was surprised to hear her pure American accent. It was funny how a face can be any nationality until the minute words are released.

“Goals?” She pointed towards either side of the hill.

“Yeah buddy!” He nodded, bracing himself for the kick. She chuckled and then began forward, making slight kicks to the ball.

Niall approached her trying to find a way to steal the ball from her. She kicked it to the right, just as he was expecting. As he moved to kick it she slammed the ball through his legs and danced around him to kick the ball into the goal boundaries.

“Score!” She cried, raising her hands high.

“Not fair!” He yelled, but laughing.

“Nuh uh! How is that not fair?” She asked, kicking the ball back around towards their makeshift field.

“Because ye’re not supposed to beat me.” He said. The girl let out a laugh.

“Yeah, ‘cause that makes sense. Again?”

“Let’s do it!” He responded, this time ready for her tricks.

She kicked the ball forward, coming straight at him. Then she stopped the ball under her feet.

“Whoa…look at that!” She pointed out towards the city.

“What?” Niall looked up. But then he turned to see the trickster scoring. “Uh!” He laughed. “You-I-”

“Again?” Niall knew she was just taunting him now, but he was determined to win. And he did…once versus the girl’s twenty.

“I can’t believe this! I’ve never been beaten so bad in me life!” He yelled jokingly.

“You were due for some butt whooping,” she grinned at him.

He opened his mouth to use some kind of witty comeback, but was interrupted by the beep of his phone. He rolled his eyes, signaling for a time out.

Liam Payne: Get down here! We have to get ready for that meeting in 30 mins!

 Niall sighed.

“What’s up?” The girl asked, holding the football against her hip.

“It’s me band mate. We have this meeting coming up…probably some idiot trying to get us to sponsor their granola bars or something.” He grinned, guessing she already knew he was from One Direction.

She laughed and nodded. “Right. Don’t let me keep you waiting.”

“Thanks for understanding. But we should meet up again…for my revenge.” He smiled devilishly.

“You mean so you can lose again?” She chuckled. “Trust me. I think we’ll be seeing each other again real soon.”

Niall pulled his eyebrows together, but smiled anyways even though he had no idea what she was talking about.

“Okay? Well I guess I’ll see you later then.” He smiled and caught her wave slightly before jogging back down the hill.
