Chapter 8
*Normani's POV*
I pulled up to Lauren's house and honked twice. A few seconds later, she came out, smiled that beautiful smile of hers, and made her way to my car. After she locked the house, of course. How can you just leave the house unlocked? That's weird.
"Hey Mani!" She buckled up her seat belt and I couldn't help but stare for a bit. I drove to our destination, her face still in my thoughts.
I didn't think it was possible for someone to be as pretty as Lauren Jauregui. I'm falling harder and harder for her each and every passing day and I ache to tell her that I love her. l finally accepted the fact that I love her. I'll scream it to the world if I have to! Today's the day I'm going to confess my feelings and pray to the Gods above that she feels the same.
"We're here." I whispered, my voice cracked. For some unknown reason, she also appeared to be nervous. Glad I'm not the only one.
We sat on an old bench nearby and watched the little kids play and laugh and be happy. Lauren scanned the park with her pretty green eyes and looked disappointed.
"Lolo, what's wrong?" I asked.
"Nothing... I was just hoping an old friend would be here."
We sat in a comfortable silence, while Lauren smiled and waved to the kids. My fondness for her grew. She must be so good with kids. It would be lovely to raise children with her. First we'll have to get married, of course. I can just imagine Lauren walking down the aisle, looking absolutely breathtaking with her elegant white dress. Whose last name would we take? I say Jauregui because it sounds better. I always wanted to get married in a big garden. Being surrounded by all different kinds of flowers would be so romantic. That would be the happiest day of my life. Me getting married to the girl of my dreams, my best friend, my true love.
"Mani, what's got you thinking so much?"
"Do you ever think about the future?" I blurted out. Shit, why did I say that?
"Yeah... A lot actually."
"What do you see?" I held my breathe, waiting for her answer.
"You."
I can't breathe. I'm not breathing. Or am I? Did I even hear her correctly?
"Oh um what was that? I don't think I heard you right." She giggled adorably and took a hold of my cold hand.
"I hope I don't scare you off, but I think about you. You're my whole future. I don't love Ally anymore. I don't even like her. The reason why I've waited this long to confess everything was because I was confused and scared. Confused about my feelings for Ally and scared you wouldn't feel the same way and leave me."
I didn't realize I was crying until now when Lauren wiped my tears away with the pad of her thumb.
"Mani, please say something."
"I'll never leave you, okay? Never. Because I like you. I like you a lot." She looked so happy in that moment and it made me happy knowing I did that to her. My eyes wandered to her lips, and I knew she noticed me staring. Our eyes made eye contact and I couldn't look away. Those green eyes are just so memorizing. Her eyes quickly looked at my lips and I knew we wanted the same thing.
"Lauren, I look at you and I want to kiss you. More than anything, I want to kiss you. A kiss to tell me that you trust your lips against mine. A kiss to prove to me that I can still see the world with my eyes closed. A kiss to remind me that actions truly do speak louder than words. I look at you and I just want to kiss you."
And so I did.
I kissed her with so much love and passion and I just couldn't believe all of this was happening.
We broke apart after I remembered we're still at a children's park. I don't think anyone noticed though. They're too busy swinging, sliding, running around to notice two girls confessing their love to one another on an old bench.
"Lo, will you be my girlfriend?" She grinned and nodded, tears still running down her face. I kissed her again and that's all I wanted to do. To kiss her and cuddle her and just be with her.
She rested her head in the crook of my neck and I slid my arm around her shoulder. I gently kissed the top of her head and she hummed in response. I sighed happily and started singing softly in her ear.
A little girl came up to us and held up a finger to her mouth. She tiptoed to Lauren and poked her nose. Her eyes snapped open and she sat up straight, but soon relaxed. She must know this little girl. Maybe she's the one Lauren looked for earlier.
"Grace! I haven't seen you in forever! How are you?" Lauren hugged Grace and she giggled.
"I'm fantastic! Tori should be around here somewhere. Who's this?"
"This is my girlfriend Normani. Mani, this is Grace. She's very adorable." Lauren pinched her cheeks and she giggled and poked my face.
"You're very pretty and have a unique name. Hey, guess what! Guess!"
"What?" Lauren asked.
"Tori asked her girlfriend to be her valentine and she accepted. Aren't you going to ask Nor... Normuni? Normani!"
"Oh my gosh I just remembered! How can I forget?"
Grace climbed on the bench and stood in between us. She cleared her throat, straightened out her green dress, and fixed her hair.
"Hello Normani. My name is Lauren." Grace giggled as she pretended to be my girlfriend, "Will you be my valentine? I will buy you chocolates!"
"I don't like chocolate." I smirked and she gasped.
"You don't like chocolate?! You're weird, but a good kind of weird. Anyway, I'll buy you flowers and teddy bears and take you to a fancy dinner. Do you accept?"
"Why yes Lauren, I do." We all laughed and Grace got down from the bench. She ran to an older girl who must be her sister. She said goodbye one last time and left Lauren and I on our own.
"So Mani... Is it really a yes?" I rolled my eyes and pecked her sweet lips.
"Of course it is. You are my girlfriend after all."
We stayed there for the rest of the day until it grew cold out and the sun was no longer visible. I drove to my place because we wanted a movie night together. We have them all the time, but this one was different because we're together now. She's mine and I'm hers. No one, not even Ally, can change our love for each other. Ally will find someone new. I just know it. We all deserve a happy ever after.
Yes, even after everything she's done, I still want her to be happy. I'm a girl, we're weird sometimes.
My beautiful girlfriend was fast asleep with her head in my lap and her mouth slightly open. I continued to play with her hair and smiled fondly. I'm so lucky to have someone as wonderful as her. It feels like everything in the world is right for once.
And who knows, maybe we'll be the school's new "It couple."
