Marco's POV

The residents were working hard, lifting the carts filled with resources needed for the base. It felt good to get back to Project Liberty, seeing it flourishing and prospering warmed my heart.

I was happy to see what Frank hoped for was now a reality. He would be so happy with the progress.I spent the day conversing with the local residents and making sure that things were stable. The guards parted ways as I walked through the dark tunnel to my father's mansion. It covered a large acre of land, with trees acting as a wall. The guards walked around with large guns as I passed them to go to my father's office.

I looked around the house until I reached the sealed door that led to the dining room, a place that etched a permanent nightmare in my memory.

Flashback

Her eyes bored into mine as I wept for her to wake up but she wouldn't. The thick blood seeped out of her as she became cold. I held close her to keep her warm but there was no use.

He kept shouting how it was my fault, it angered me but I couldn't release my hold over her as I wiped the hair from her face. Suddenly, we were ripped apart from each other as I shouted, reaching for her as she was taken away from me.

My world was came tumbling down as I sobbed alone in the dining room.

I snapped out of my thoughts as I opened the door to my father's office. Torres passed me on the way out, scowling at me as per usual. Probably still mad about the scar I left in the middle of his face.

I sat across my father as we exchanging knowing glances. I folded my arms, ready to listen to whatever he needed to say.

"So, your chocolate delight paid attention to my advice since you two have broken up. Now you can focus on what's important." He said.

Somehow, I wasn't surprised that he managed to manipulate her, he seemed to have that kind power to make people do what he wants.

She was such a hypocrite because she called me out for being too weak around him. I guess it was safe to say that I dodged a bullet there.

"It seemed that way, Juan. Now, what's so important that you brought me back here for?" I questioned, eyeing suspiciously as he moved around nervously

" Mijo, my time is slowly running right now and as you are my only heir, you have to inherit this home as well as the business without hesitation. You can't argue this because you have no other choice." He said, turned away from him.

" I'm supposed to believe anything you said right now, given the way you have manipulated me in the past," I chuckled bitterly.

He threw a piece of paper that did indeed confirmed that he had cancer with his doctor's signature signed on there.

I startled by the fact that this was happening but I knew I was all he had and I needed to be there for him.

Later that day

I sat on my couch, listening to smooth Jazz as I enjoyed the scenery. The ringtone I hadn't heard in awhile as the phone vibrated.

The phone rang for awhile as I thought about whether it was wise to pick the phone call. I sighed heavily, picking up the phone. I pressed the answer button, putting the phone to my ear.

"Marco, are you there?" her voice echoed.

" Hello to you Eve. What do you want?" I said in a monotone voice.

"I just wanted to check on how you were. Sorry for leaving you like that. It wasn't easy doing that" She said, nervously.

I chuckled sarcastically:" It wasn't easy. Haha. Thanks for the laugh. Now what do you want?" is asked.

"Nothing. I was only checking on you that's all." She remarked.

" You know what? I have something to say. You're hypocrite, Eve. I can't believe you would let my father manipulate you into breaking up with me even after everything I told you." I yelled, frustrated with her.

" Wow, you and I both know that I wouldn't do that because I'm not you because unlike you, I have a backbone."

I was ready to respond when the phone cut. I couldn't believe that she hung up on me like that and at this point, it was fair to say that our relationship had definitely soured.
