Marco's POV

I sat in the dark den of my father's house, waiting for him to have this so-called meeting he needed to have with me. The girls swirled, gyrating against the poles to the heavy bass beats to the latin music.

I downed my shot, setting the glass down on the coffee table. One girl with thick hips, long straight hair right down, dressed in nothing but a tiny thong. She started to grind against my groin, slowly moving up and down. I stared at her with a blank look, not sure if I was aroused by her or not.

"You can have this on a daily basis if you followed my footsteps, hijo. But you're stubborn" He said, sitting next to me. He gestured for the girls to leave and we were left alone, the colourful strobe lights flashing from all angles. Juan took a puff of his cigar, filling the airspace with smoke.

"Juan, let's hurry this up. I have things to do." I said nonchalantly.

"I wanted to tell that your chocolate Bonita had an incident with her ex and is now in hospital, what a shame isn't it?" He said. I turned to look at him, shocked by what I heard, I couldn't believe that this happened to Eva. I needed to see her but there is one more thing to do before I left here.

"Would you care to explain this, Juan?" I said, taking out my phone, playing the recording of the conversation between his doctor and I about his cancer progress. I could see him getting uncomfortable about what was going to confront him. I pressed play on the recording and sat back in the chair.

"So, Doctor Montgomery,  how's my father's cancer progress?" I asked

"What are you talking about, Mr Diaz?" the doctor asked.

"His cancer progress? He has cancer, right?" I asked.

"No, what made you think that? Has Juan told something?"

"Yes, he gave me this document with your signature on it, confirming that he had cancer and authorising his chemotherapy."

"Well, it seems that your father deceived you. I will talk to him about this."

"Don't worry, Doctor. I will handle it."

I stopped the recording and looking at him with disgust. I couldn't believe that he lied to me this way.

"Care to explain, Juan?" I asked, folding my arms. He chuckled darkly, reclining in the chair.

"Hijo, this was all to make you stay and fulfil your duties as head of The Diaz Cartel when I retire." He said, nonchalantly that only made me angrier.

"How could you do this to me, knowing full well that I will keep refusing to accept it? Why did you deceive me like this?" I yelled

"Stop being dramatic Marco. It's just a little white lie, don't be like that" He said. That hit a nerve for me as my fist landed on his face, he stumbled back.

He dazed, spitting blood out. I turned around to walk away, towards the door.

"You're weak like your mother, you can't finish me off. I know you want to." He said, still spitting out blood. Unbeknownst to him, I had a gun in my coat, had just ready to shoot him. My mother's sweet face came into my mind before turning into her sunken face after he shot her. I should never let him back into my life.

The bullets flew towards as I aimed the gun at him, it hit his torso and leg, he fell instantly with wide eyes, not believing that I could shoot him. I walked towards him, dropping gun next to him just to see if he was willing to kill me when I walked away.

The sound of the empty gun clicking confirmed all I needed to know as I walked away for good.

Eve's POv

My eyes fluttered open, seeing a blurred vision of my surroundings, I felt warm hands grab onto mine as I winced in pain.

"Hey, don't try to get up, sweetie. You'll hurt yourself"I heard my father's soft voice, I held onto his hand tighter to sit up properly in my bed. Wait, where was I?

"Where am I, Dad?" I asked. He sat down in a chair next to me, looking at me sadly.

"In the hospital, sweetheart. You don't have to worry about Jay, he's been arrested" He said, rubbing my hand. I looked around to see that Tanya was sleeping in a chair nearby and Lisa and Eric were looking at me with concern. The door suddenly opened and the person that I didn't want see again. Her hair was perfectly coiffed and she had a favourite outfit; a blouse with regular fit trousers and Louboutin heels. Her Burberry perfume consumed the air as she walked towards me.

A scowl formed on my face as she attempted to touch my face but flinched away.

"Let's give your mother and sister some space to talk. Eve, please hear her out for your peace of mind" my father said, waking up Tanya, ushering her, my brother and my sister out of the room.

The room became uncomfortably silent as I looked away from her. She sat down, fiddling with her hands, something she did when she was extremely nervous.

"First of all, I apologise from the bottom of my heart about what I said. I just wanted you to do better than I did and I believed that Jay would provide that for you but you did it for yourself. You were right all along about him. Secondly, you were never a mistake. You just came at a time that I was ready to do something I always wanted to do and I resented that you took that from me."

"Are you done?" I asked, coldly, folding my arms.

"No, but-"I waved my hand for her to stop talking.

"I'll talk to you when I'm ready. You can leave"I said, motioning for her to leave. The door opened and closed, that's when I was ready to let go of the past and move on.

I walked out of Mike's office as we conversed together. The ownership of Icon Magazine passed onto Jay's brother and flourished under his ownership but it wasn't a place I could stay at anymore.

"Are you sure, Eve? You know that you are more than capable having a senior writing position here." Mike said hopefully. I smiled knowing that my time here was up.

"No, Mike. I've enjoyed my time here but I got to move on and make a fresh start. I expect my last pay soon." I said and he simply laughed, shaking his head.

I walked out of the building, ready for the future ahead of me.
