31. Just Don't

Jesy's POV

I walked into the detention room. The words "no talking" were written on the board in capital letters. I looked at the people in the room. They were the same people who were usually in detention. I saw my ex-best friends Emily and Veronica there. I expected tosee Emily but not Veronica. I always thought that she was the good girl type.

"Am I late?" I looked up. Leigh Anne was standing at the door. What is she doing here? I thought. Leigh was the last person I expected to be here. "No." Emily said. Leigh sighed in relief. She took a seat next to Veronica. I knew I couldn't talk in detention so I wrote a note to Leigh.

Jesy: hey what are you doing here?

Leigh: I talked back to my teacher

Jesy: why?

         Leigh: I got my phone taken away

Jesy: some people have all the luck

Leigh: what happened to you?

Jesy: James Sankey purposely threw a basketball on my big toe so I threw the ball on his foot.

Before Leigh could respond, the detention teacher, Mrs. Belk, walked in. "No cell phones!!" She screamed at James. It scared the s.hit out of everyone. "Now most of you know the rules but to those who don't, listen up. Rule number one, no cell phones. Rule number two, no talking. Rule number three, no eating. Rule number four, no gum chewing." Mrs. Belk paused for a moment before speaking again. "This is the most important rule. Absolutely no talking back. When I say, 'hush', you hush. Understood?" "Yes Mrs. Belk."

Mrs. Belk stayed at the desk until a loud crashing noise came from the hallway. "What the bloody hell was that?" Before leaving she added, "Nobody move." Five minutes later, a red haired boy said, "Coast is clear." "Thanks Scott." A futbol player said. I didn't know either of them. Everyone else got up and started to talk about pop culture. I went towards Leigh when Serena stopped me. She stood between two girls I didn't recognize. "Back for more?" I challenged. "Shut up. I want my vengeance." "Steal that from a movie, eh?" "SHUT UP!" The whole room fell silent. I moved towards Serena and punched her. We kept fighting until the teacher came back and separated us. "That's enough, you two." Mrs. Belk was pissed.

"It's bad enough we have to be here. The least you could do is behave." She glared at Serena and I. "Don't make tonight worse." Mrs. Belk walked back to her desk. The two of us shared a look and sat down. I looked to my left and saw Scott pointing at the door. "Someone's here." Mrs. Belk stood up immediately. The principal was standing in the doorway.
