The next morning Blair woke up and found that her brother was already gone. She got out of bed and walked to the kitchen, ready for a cup of coffee.
Instead she was met by her family all sitting around the table, looking glum.
"Who died," Blair jokingly asked, grabbing a coffee mug.
"Apparently my kid's honesty," Blair's mom said, directing her eyes at Blair's brother, "this morning your brother told us that he's engaged to a Peruvian girl and they plan on getting married at the court house...I did not raise kids who don't have proper wedding ceremonies!"
"Mom chill, shouldn't you just be happy that he found someone he loves? Who cares if their isn't a big party with obnoxious dresses and shitty food?"
"I care! I care a lot! I care that my son hides an engagement from me and that my daughter thinks fraternizing with an old man is perfectly acceptable!"
Blair's father finally opened his mouth,"Doris, you need to calm the fuck down."
Everyone's eyes widened, hearing curse words come out of his mouth was unheard of. Hearing her father cuss was about as natural as a dog with wings.
"You act like you never kept things from your parents...I thought you always said you wanted to be different than your mom. You're acting just like her right now."
Blair's grandmother was a tough lady. No one really liked her because of how unfriendly and stuck up she was. As Blair's mother grew older, she found herself acting more and more like her.
Blair's mother covered her face with her hands, trying to stop her sobs from being heard by everyone.
"You're right, I'm acting like my horrible bitchy mother who everyone hates. This isn't me, you all know that. I just miss you guys and it makes me really sad when you don't call to tell me about all the importing things happening in your lives. I don't want to miss anything...I'm sorry."
Blair's brother stood up, giving his mom an awkward side hug.
"It's okay, mom, don't even worry about it," Blair said.
"It's not, I should be happy that my kids are doing so well. I'm sorry. I'm going to try and be more understanding about everything. And honey, how about next week we go and get that damn hamster."
Everyone laughed and sat at the table. The week was starting off with a bang, that's for sure. In less than 24 hours their would be a house full of guests and food. For once, Blair wasn't so annoyed about having to help her mom out in the kitchen.

The next day Blair was awoken by the sound of Christmas music. Christmas music blaring could only mean one thing-it was time to cook the weird Pinterest recipes.
Blair got out of bed, walking to the kitchen where her mom was already mixing and baking and decorating.
"Oh, honey you're up! Do you want to make the mashed potatoes or macaroni and cheese?"
"Wait...mac and cheese? What happened to all the crazy Pinterest recipes you love so much?"
"You know, I think this year we should just go traditional, make all the normal foods."
Blair smiled, grabbing a potato to peel it.
Five hours later, the food was ready. Blair's mom had bought sugar cookie mix so everyone had decorated cookies. It was the first time in years that Blair could remember everyone doing an activity together without an argument breaking out.
The guests started pouring in and soon enough Blair was stuck telling everyone how great college was and how ready she was to graduate. At around 6 Blair's mom announced that it was finally time to eat. The adults flocked to the dining room and the kids flocked to the den, where Blair's mom had set up the kids table and put a movie on for them to watch as they ate.
As Blair walked past the den she remembered all the times she'd spent at the kids table. At age 10 she wanted to sit with the adults and at age 15 she wanted to go back to the kids table so she could escape the boring adult conversations and watch tv.
Now, Blair was more than used to sitting with the adults. They'd talk about old family stories that everyone knew by heart and briefly talk about politics here and there. Blair ate her food and listened, not interested enough to partake in the conversation about oil prices.
"So Blair," her Aunt Annie asked,"how's school going? I'm sure you have all the boys chasing you!"
The table laughed, causing Blair's cheeks to turn red. She hated being the center of attention, especially when the attention came from family members she barely knew.
"I'm seeing someone, it's pretty casual but he's nice."
An uncle chimed in, suddenly interested in Blair's love life,"what's he study up at that big fancy school?"
"Oh, he um actually already graduated. He majored in creative writing..."
Please don't ask me any more questions for gods sake!
"Creative writing? What's he gonna do with that...besides be broke forever!"
The table erupted into another fit of laughter and Blair looked down at her plate.
"What are you laughing at, Corey? Last time I checked, you didn't even attend college," Blair's mom said, taking a sip from her wine glass.
Blair looked at her mom who immediately looked back at her. Her mom winked at her and nodded, making Blair feel like a little kid again.
After dinner, everyone emptied out in groups, still full from all the food. Blair helped her mom clean up and wash dishes.
"Thanks for sticking up for me back there, mom."
"Of course, baby. You know Uncle Corey is kind of an ignorant ass, don't worry about him."
They dried up the dishes and wiped the table, finally done with all the after Thanksgiving chores.
Blair's mom walked over to Blair wrapping her in a hug,"if you're happy, I'm happy Blair, you know that right? Even though dating your professor isn't exactly ideal...I trust your judgement and I know you'll do the right thing."

The week flew by and before Blair knew it, it was time to return back to school. Back to studying and writing papers and stress...
Despite the amount of stress she would soon be faced with yet again, Blair was excited to see her friends and Logan, who was picking her up from the airport.
When she landed at the airport she quickly found her bag which was one of the first to come across the carousel.
She walked outside, eagerly waiting for Logan. She stood, taking turns watching for his car and looking at her phone.
Before she could send him a frantic text, she saw him pull up. She waved, surprised at just at how excited she was to see him. He got out of the car and Blair let go of her suitcase, not caring that it was now on the ground which was no doubt disgustingly dirty and germ ridden.
Logan picked her up and Blair wrapped her legs around him, feeling as if she'd just walked off the set of a romantic comedy.
"I missed you," Blair said, kissing Logan.
"I missed you too, Blair bear."
