  CHAPTER 07
comfort & cookies

Elsa scurried down the stairs, quickly wiping her eyes to get the red to fade away. She clung to herself as she flew to the next flight of steps, then down to the cafe. She peeked around the corner and entered the kitchen, to find the wheeler of boxes of deliveries on its side, on the ground. Boxes that had been wrapped and tied perfectly were scattered on the floor. Crouched over one, that's cookie innards were spilled out onto the floor, was a floof of ginger hair.

The puff glanced up, to reveal a face with red cheeks and ears and robin's egg eyes. A cookie was snug into her mouth. "Um-" Merida hummed awkwardly, "Hi." She greeted, taking a bite of the cookie.

Elsa lightly smiled, "I'm guessing you're the new delivery girl Punz' hired... You- you must be Merida, you're staying with her for the season, aren't you?" She questioned, getting down on her knees. She delicately placed her hands on her lap.

"You know it." Merida replied, mouth-full of baked goodness. She was quickly gathering up the cookies, tossing them into the box (and in her pockets). "At least till' my mum wants me back home." She sighed, sitting up, "I'm not very good, as you can see."

Elsa's mind quickly hiccuped, "Oh, yeah, let me help you--" She began collecting some boxes and setting them onto one of the metal tables, before struggling to pull the wheeler back up.
The red head smiled, getting to her feet and tossing the dirty box onto the preparation table. She grasped the other side of the wheeler and helped Elsa get it straight. The two backed up, glancing at each other awkwardly.

"You're doing deliveries this late?" Elsa started. What am I saying deliveries are always given out this late. At least the spiked ones.

Merida nodded, "Yup, I'm pretty sure I have a lot of mocha kahlua cupcakes to deliver, along with macadamia nut cookies. Which I just lost a batch too... They were good though."

"You actually ate one off the floor?"
"Five minute rule."
   "It's five seconds..."

Merida paused, glancing to the side. She shrugged, "Five seconds, 300 seconds, same difference."
The two laughed, Elsa shyly cupping a hand over her smile as Merida just straight-up chortled.

After an awkward moment of silence, "How's your friend doing?" Merida asked, as she grabbed a few boxes with blue sticky-notes on them, which meant that she had to deliver them tonight.

"Oh, he'sーhe's better now." Elsa stammered in reply, holding her hands in front of her as she fiddled with her fingers. The events from earlier luckily slipped to the back of her mind.

The Scot's eyebrows furrowed, "Ya sure? I mean, he's a tall guy, he took quite a fall, he was pale..."

"I wouldn't leave him alone up there if he wasn't." Elsa established, then suddenly apologized for her stern manner, "Sorry, he's..."

"No, no, I get it," Merida's previously gay expression seemed to die down, "I can tell he's special to you." She hoisted the boxes in her arms, "You mind helping me load these onto my bike?"

Elsa quickly nodded in agreement, although she was awfully tired. It's not like she could turn her down at this point... She was kind ofーNo.
The blonde took half the boxes off her hands and the two exited the kitchen, pushing the door open with their arses and doing the same with the glass-veiled exit.

The night was quiet at this hour, surprisingly on Main Street. The only sound that could really be heard was music from the clubs two streets over. It was a pretty decent city, with decent people... At least, on the outside they were decent.
