Meeting The Devil

After a long agonizing day at school, it was time to come home. I had no idea if Alyssa was there or not but I didn't feel like texting mom.

I plopped down in my usual seat on the bus and leaned against the window pane. The bus hissed and ran over a bump as it drove out of the school parking lot. A few kids yelled obscenities at the bus driver but he ignored us as usual.

I was wondering what Alyssa would look like... would she look the same? Did she change? Did she dye her hair? Will she be wearing short shorts and a tank top that shows off her melons? I was so curious.

The bus reached my stop and I got off. The bus drove off down the street and I walked down my block. My mom's car was there, but not aunt Juliet's. I let out a sigh. I didn't have to look her straight in the eye the minute I walk into the house. What a joy!

I walk up the front porch steps and am about to open the door when I hear a honk behind me. That must be her. Oh goody.

I turn around and wave awkwardly at aunt Juliet's pick up truck. She pops out of the car like a Jack in the box and runs over to me, screaming. Her earrings are jangling like Santa's sleigh bells.

"My Hannerzzz! Oh my, you have grown since I last saw you!" Juliet gushed, pinching my cheeks and looking me over. Aunt Juliet was my favorite aunt, unfortunately I wasn't a fan of her daughter.

"I am so excited that Alyssa will spend time with you. You two haven't talked for a long while huh?" she asked, playing with a strand of my hair. I nodded slowly, avoiding her eyes.

"Alyssa! Come on, get out here!" Juliet called, waving a hand to the truck. The door opened and the first thing I saw was a pair of silver heels.

I couldn't believe my eyes. That did not look like Alyssa, it looked like somebody from Hollywood. Her hair was done in perfect light beach waves, flowing down the front of her baby blue sundress. She had on sunglasses, so I couldn't see her eyes. Alyssa's legs were long and tan, as the rest of her body was. Her soft baby pink lips were formed in a slight pucker as if she had kissed a lemon. That was not Alyssa. There is no way. But then, she took off her sunglasses and I recognized the eyes immediately.

Shit.

"H-h-h-hi Alyssa" I stuttered, waving. She gave me a disapproving look, then chuckled.

This was already not going so well.

"This is your house?" she scoffed. "I've seen better houses... do I have to stay here mommyyy?" she whined, pouting.

"Oh, quit your yapping Alyssa and get your stuff out of the car" Juliet demanded.

"I need heeelppppp" Alyssa whined again, stomping a heel. Aunt Juliet groaned but went down the porch steps to help Alyssa with her things. She took out two giant suitcases. My eyes widened... did she have that MANY clothes?

"Thanks mom..." Alyssa replied, handing her a ten dollar bill. I furrowed my eyebrows.

"Bye girls! I will be calling every now and then ok Alyssa?" Juliet says, smiling.

"Yeah, I know mom.." she groaned, looking at a perfectly manicured red nail. Aunt Juliet got into the car, backed out of the driveway and sped off.

Me and Alyssa watched her go until she was out of sight, then she looked me up and down. She flipped her hair and giggled in this most annoying way. It sounded like a mouse getting run over by a monster truck.

"What?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh nothing!" she bubbled, flipping another curl. "You just haven't changed much Hailey..."
