The day after the party, me and Alyssa were back to being together and it never felt better than it did right now. It was a Sunday afternoon, me and Alyssa were watching TV in my room with a bunch of snacks laying around. We had king sized bags of Hot Cheetos, iced tea bottles, buttered popcorn, M&M's and just typical junk food. At the moment, we were watching White Chicks and cracking up.
"This movie never gets old..." Alyssa said with a laugh, popping some popcorn into her mouth.
"Tell me about it!" I exclaim, wiping some tears from my eye. "Woo!"
"So, are you ready to go back to school tomorrow?" she asks me, eyes glued to the screen.
"Only if you are..." I reply, looking at her with serious eyes. She looks at me.
"Of course I'm ready. I am ready to show everyone that I don't care what they say anymore.. and if Gabriel says anything, I'll just kick him in the nuts." Alyssa says, reaching for her tea bottle.
"I don't think he has any down there." I reply, smirking. Alyssa spits tea all over the bed sheets and I stare at her in shock. She starts to laugh really hard so I just have to laugh along because that was pretty funny. We sigh and look at each other. She leans close to me.
"You're great Hannah" she says, kissing me.
"Great? I'm more like super duper" I tease, pointing my fist to the sky. She rolls her eyes but giggles.
"I wuv you" she coos, feeding me a piece of popcorn.
"I wuv you too" I coo back, giggling and rubbing my nose on hers.
The next day, me and Alyssa walked into school holding hands. Everybody was looking at us. I waved at anyone who gave us dirty glares. Alyssa did the same. As we were by my locker, Gabriel and his friends came up to us.
"Oh Alyssa, you're cheating on me with her?" he makes a 'tsk tsk' noise and shakes his head. His companions follow him along. "What happened to us baby?" he asks, trying to put a hand around her waist but she slaps his hand away.
"Go away Narrenti, she's mine now" I say, pulling her close to me. He gives me a look like I just grew an extra head and starts to laugh loudly. His friends join in again and then he quiets them down. Gabriel comes up to me.
"You know Summer, you are really super weird... I knew there was something off about you all along." he says, sneering.
"I can say the same about you Narrenti" I retort, mimicking his sneer. A crowd has gathered around us and now they are oohing. Gabriel rolls his eyes and scoffs.
"Well yeah, but you're bisexual." he says, saying the word bisexual like it was type of toxic rolling off his tongue.
"So? That doesn't make me any different." I reply.
"Yes it does."
"How?"
He clears his throat. "First of all, it is unnatural to like somebody of the same sex. It was even stated in the Bible. Second, that is your cousin. It may not be illegal here, but it is illegal in other states. So if you two wanted to move to a different state, you'd have trouble living there due to the fact that you are dating your cousin. Third, your families must be disappointed in you."
I stepped up to Gabriel, looked him straight in the eye and told him everything I wanted to say.
"My turn now. First of all, there are other people in this world that are lesbian, gay or bisexual. It isn't just me. There are many famous people who have different sexualities. Some examples are Ellen Degeneres, Portia De Rossi, Alan Cumming, Neil Patrick Harris and Lady Gaga. Not every single famous person is straight if that's what you were thinking. Second, it may not be illegal here and I know that many states have it illegalized. But there is something called looking up the states that it is okay in. I'm not planning on moving anytime soon and third, my family is actually supportive. I don't care for the people that don't like me being like this. I have some true friends who will accept me. People can go ahead and hate on me, they never bothered me. So, speak up for yourself. It's okay to be different. If there is anyone here who is okay with revealing themselves, go ahead. Do not be afraid."
There is some silence in the crowd before a guy with mousy brown hair and blue eyes looks at the crowd and confesses,"I like boys." A few people look at him with disgust but this gets more and more people to speak up.
"I'm lesbian."
"I'm bi."
"I'm gay."
"Gay"
"Bi"
"Lesbian
"Lesbian"
"Gay"
"Gay"
"Bi"
Lots of people begin to call out whatever they are and I just stand there, feeling proud of myself. Gabriel looks around him with a shocked expression. I smile at him and stand tall.
"So Gabriel, you can suck on it." then I grab Alyssa and kiss her right there in front of everybody. I kissed her in front of the teachers, the students and Gabriel.
I was finally content with myself. I did the right thing, I knew I did.
