"What about Mark Galewinski?" Miranda asks, typing in his name into the Facebook search bar. I make a gagging noise and go back to reading my book of the week. This week, it was Looking For Alaska by John Green. I loved John Green's books, every word he wrote on a page had so much meaning and he did it so effortlessly.
"Hannah, get your nose out of that damn book and come look at this hottie!" Tess shrieks, throwing a stuffed animal at me. The plush dog hits my head and I brush my hair out of my face, continuing to read. Tess huffs and crawls over to me. She clonks me on the head with her fist.
"Ow! Tess, what's the big idea!?" I grumble, rubbing my throbbing crown.
"We want you to be happy." Miranda explains, scrolling through Mark's Facebook wall.
"I am happy. I don't need you guys hooking me up, honestly. Just cut it out Mindy." I say, opening my book back up, Miranda doesn't like it when I call her Mindy.
"Hey! Watch it.." Miranda hisses under her breath.
"Calm down kitty. Hannah, when will you ever get a boyfriend?" Tess asks, taking a magazine off my night stand and flipping through the pages.
"After I finish college." I reply nonchalantly. Tess drops the magazine back on the nightstand, groans and plops her butt down in the bean bag chair next to my bed.
"What about Elliott Morrero?" Miranda suggests, typing on the keyboard. As if on cue, me and Tess both lean over and make gagging noises. Elliot Morrero isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and he has the same bowl cut from fourth grade.
"You guys are so mean. Elliott is a good kid.." Miranda says in response to our inappropriate noises. There is a knock on the door.
"What's up?" I yell to the person on the other side.
"Mom wants you downstairs Hannie" it's my ten year old brother, Jack.
"Okay, be right down" I say, putting my bookmark on the page I'm reading and closing the book. I tell my friends i'll be right back and walk out of my room, down the hall and the stairs.
My mom is in the kitchen, preparing something. It must be a snack of some sort because I can see a package of blue Oreos next to her.
"You need me mom?" I ask. She turns around and nods. Me and mom look exactly the same. We both have the same strawberry blonde hair, brown eyes and slim figure. Mom is a bit slimmer but we are about the same weight. That's a good thing because then I borrow her clothes from time to time.
"Hannah, sit down." she says, pointing to the chair. I hope I didn't do something wrong. I had good grades like always. I sit in the chair and fix up my messy bun. Mom sits down in front of me, taking a deep breath.
"Is this about my grades?" I question, holding my breath.
"No no. Your grades are fine dear" I let out a breath of relief. I hope someone didn't pass away.
"Well, you know aunt Juliet right?" mom asks, grabbing hold of my hand.
"Yes..." I say, awaiting more information. Mom sighs, takes a deep breath and then looks me straight in the eye.
"You remember Alyssa too?" my eyes widen like a deer in headlights. Remember Alyssa? I didn't even want to THINK or KNOW of that girl. She was a rotten and spoiled little child. She did so many things to me as a young girl. I never forgave her for anything she did. The last time I saw her was when I was 5 years old.
"What about her?" I snap, a little too harshly. Mom is startled by my outburst but she continues.
"Aunt Juliet and uncle Theodore are having issues at the moment... something personal, I don't know. But they asked me to... to..."
