Baby Shower

I wake up to Arjun's lips on my forehead. "Good morning mangamma," he says, helping me up. "Ready for today?" He asks. I nod. Today was my baby shower and I was beyond words. I never even dreamt that this would happen to me. A year ago, I'd thought I would never be able to give birth, yet here I was at my baby shower. I freshened up before I was bombarded by Vaishu, Kavitha akka and Pooja. "Priyama! You have to wear this!" She says handing me a box. I smile and look at Vaishu and Kavitha. "When did you get this?" I ask. "When I went to pick up Pooja last week, I took Vaishu with me." Kavitha says. I smile, so that's why they were late, I thought Pooja was out playing with Shravan. I open the box to see a beautiful pinkish orange sari with a gold border. "Thank you!!! It's beautiful!!!" I exclaim hugging them. "Now time to get you ready!" Vaishu exclaims. Soon I was in the sari. Kavitha sits me down at the mirror and starts tying my hair, while Vaishu does my makeup, and Pooja helped me put on the jewellery. Once they were done, they stood back to admire their work. "Wow, Priyama! You look like an angel!!" Pooja exclaims. I smile and thank her. Before anyone else could say anything Amma comes in. She stops dead when she sees me and her eyes start running. She cups my face, and cries. "I knew that you would get your wish soon..." She said kissing my forehead. "Valiamma, that's enough sentiments this is a happy occasion!!" Vaishu exclaims. Kavitha nods, "and Priya's makeup shouldn't be smudged, we worked so hard on it!" She says. Pooja adds her own input, "don't cry Ammamma." She says. Amma smiles and wipes away her tears. The door opens and Arjun walks in with his hands behind him. "Oh mama is here, that's our cue to leave!" Vaishu says, dragging everyone out with her. She whispers something to Pooja and she starts giggling before leaving. I turn back around to face the mirror as Arjun comes behind me. I raise my eyebrows asking how I look. He smiles and brings his face beside mine. He leaves a kiss on my cheek, before lifting me to my feet. He takes out a box behind him and presents it to me. I gasp and look at him. He motions for me to open it. I open it and gasp again. Inside was a beautiful gold necklace with matching earrings and ring. "Do you like it?" He asks. I nod, my eyes watering. He wipes the tear that falls and smiles. "Put it on." He says. I shake my head, "you put it on me." I say handing him the box. He turns me to face the mirror and puts on the necklace first. I feel his warm hands on my neck and sigh. Arjun smirks and kisses my neck. I feel my cheeks heating up, as he puts on my earrings. He then takes my hand and puts on the ring. We turn to face the mirror, as Arjun wraps his arms around me. I feel lost in the moment when Pooja bursts in with Atha, Sukanya and Shruti. "Come on its time!" Shruti says as they pull me out. I go out to the hall to see everything decorated complete with a beautiful throne-like chair surrounded by my closest family. They really went all out for me. I sit down on the chair and get visited by all my family and friends, congratulating me. Soon I see Bala's mom come in, and I look over to Arjun. He smirks and leans over to whisper in my ear. "Lets see if she can say anything about you now." I smile and put my hand over his which was on my shoulder. We share a smile before she comes over. "Congrats, finally you got your own child." She says half-heartedly. I thank her with a smile, and see Pooja smile in the corner of my eye. Soon they started the ritual and I felt like I was on cloud nine.
