"Okay, are you a pancake type of girl or a waffle type of girl?" Luke questioned me while I browsed the menu trying to decide what to order.
"Most definitely a pancake type of girl. Pancakes are the best!"
Luke fake gasped, "I cannot believe you just said that!"
I laughed, "I'm guessing you're a waffle type of guy?"
"Obviously waffles are the best thing to ever happen to mankind."
"That is quite hilarious that you think that, because that is not true at all. Pancakes are the best thing to ever grace mankind with their presence," I argued back.
We both started laughing. After a minute or so, our laughter died down, "Okay, I know you're a waffle guy and all, but what pancakes should I get? This menu looks delicious and I cannot decide! Even the waffles look tasty!"
There were so many different kinds of pancake options for me to choose from and they all looked amazing! There was no way for me to choose.
The choices were insane! They obviously had the traditional buttermilk pancakes. Others were blueberry, chocolate chip, cherry vanilla, strawberry banana, mango and peach, white chocolate macadamia nut, and plenty more! How on earth was I supposed to choose?!
"I have honestly tasted everything on this menu, yes, even the pancakes, and my pancake recommendation to you would be Cherry Vanilla. Most definitely Cherry Vanilla," Luke exclaimed.
"You read my mind. That's exactly what I was leaning towards," I smiled.
Our waitress came to our table then, "Hello, good morning. My name is Linda, and I'll be your waitress today. Can I start you two off with some drinks?"
"I'll have an orange juice please," I looked to Luke questioning what he wanted.
"The same for me."
The waitress smiled, "Okay, now are you ready to order your meals or do you need a little more time?"
"We're ready," we said at the same time. We both chuckled.
Luke spoke up first, "She'll have the Cherry Vanilla pancakes, and I'll have the Cinnamon Apple waffles."
Linda the waitress smiled and nodded, then she left to place our orders in.
I gave a questioning smile to Luke, "Cinnamon Apple waffles?"
"You've never had Cinnamon Apple waffles before?! They're amazing!"
"Pancake girl remember?" We both laughed.
After our laughter died down, there was an awkward silence. Linda brought us our drinks then and gave us straws. I opened my straw and put it in my orange juice. Then I played with the wrapper to keep myself busy. I got really uncomfortable with the awkward silence so I decided to start up a new conversation. "So you play football?"
Luke chuckled, "Yeah. I'm quarterback. I would be captain this year but since I'm going to be a junior, I let a senior become captain. I felt it was the right thing to do."
"So what you're saying is that you're so good that they were going to allow a junior to be captain instead of a senior?"
"Yes. I'm not trying to be cocky or anything, I'm just trying to be honest with you. Honesty has to come before trust right?"
I smiled. He really seemed determined to gain my trust. It wasn't like Him back home at all. He had my trust from the very beginning and he took complete advantage of it. I shook my head, I shouldn't let thoughts of him still flood my mind. I smiled again at Luke, "You really want my trust don't you? Why? I mean you just met me yesterday."
"I know, but I just have this strong feeling that we could become really great friends."
"Well, it would be nice to have a friend here my age so I don't have to hangout with my younger cousins all summer." I started playing with my straw in my drink and mumbled, "Actually, it would be nice to even just have a friend."
Luke looked shocked at first, then his face was filled with concern. "You don't have any friends back home?"
I shook my head no, looking away from him.
"Well, you should know that you most definitely have a friend in me. And I know that Dylan, Blake, and Josh would love to be friends with you as well. So please switch that frown upside down and smile for me, because I swear I saw some dimples last night when you did your little victory dance, but I wasn't sure in the dark."
That made me laugh and causes me to smile a really genuine smile unlike my other lame smiles I've been giving. My genuine smile did show dimples.
Luke smiled his pearly whites back at me, "You do have dimples! You should always smile like that, it brightens up your pretty face."
That made me blush, "Well, nothing really makes me smile like that anymore."
"I'm always going to try to make you smile like that. I'll even count the times. Right now is one."
Out waitress then came and brought us our food. It smelt and looked absolutely delicious.
"This looks and smells amazing!" I picked up my fork and knife and dug into my pancakes. "Mmmm! Oh my god! This is delicious."
"Oh, let me try!" Luke said picking up a piece that I had already cut off of my plate before I could even protest.
"Hey! This is too good for me to share! Stick to your waffles, Waffle Boy!" I then picked a piece of his waffle off of his plate. I tried to hide my satisfaction for it but I couldn't. Luke could see right through it.
"Looks like I might turn Pancake Girl into Waffle Girl," he teased with a smirk.
That was the first time I saw him smirk. His smirk made him even hotter than he already was. Suddenly I had butterflies in my stomach. No! I couldn't start having a crush on him! I was leaving at the end of summer. And I obviously wasn't ready for any new relationships since I always had what happened with Him back home flooding my thoughts. I shook my head to get rid of the thoughts right now.
"Not likely," I replied to Luke and stuck my tongue out at him.
After we finished our amazing breakfast, our waitress brought us our check. I pulled out my wallet and placed a $10 bill for my share out of habit. Luke immodestly protested and pushed my money back to me.
"When I say that I am going to take you out to breakfast, that means I pay." I tried to argue with him to let me pay my half but he cut me off sternly, "Brynn, don't try to argue with me because you'll lose. I am paying."
I gave him a small smile in defeat.
After Luke left the money for the bill and a tip he stood up and smiled his dimple smile at me, "Alright, are you ready to go explore this town?"
"I don't think I really have a choice, so yes, I guess I am," I joked and followed him out of the door.
