Hamilton|First Person
Once we're back in the apartment John's emotions level out. He takes a long shower and passes out on the bed in his towel. I can't help but smile at him, despite my depressed state, he's adorable. I admire him for a while, then realize I should be doing something productive while he's out. I kiss him on the forehead before I leave, leaving a note on the side table that tells him to call me when he wakes up.
I go back out to the car and drive towards campus, deciding to get some coffee for when he wakes up. The place is still pretty empty, despite the fact we're on the last couple of days of break. The cafe still holds the odd straggler escaping from the cold weather. Among this group of customers is Lafayette, sat a table with an old woman that resembles him vaguely.
"Hey, Laf." I say as I approach his table.
"Alexander, mon ami! Grand-mere, this is Alex, my friend. Alex, this is my grandmother, Marie." I smile at him and his grandmother.
"It's nice to meet you, Marie." She smiles at me, her eyes crinkling around the edges.
"You too, Alexander." She says with even more of a French tint to her voice than Lafayette.
"Herc is at the counter if you're here for coffee." He informs me.
"Thanks. Guess I'll leave you to it." I pat Lafayette on the shoulder and start towards the counter. Sure enough, Hercules leans on the edge while he stares at his phone. "Hey, Herc." He perks up, his face lighting up when he sees me.
"Alex, my dude!" He sets aside his phone. "How's John?"
"Asleep," I say with a little chuckle. "How're you doing? How'd your date with your barista friend go?" I wiggle my eyebrows at him, winking as he starts to work on my usual order.
"Eh, they're not. I don't think she's my type."
I shrug and push myself up to sit on the counter to continue our conversation. "So you have a type now?" He rolls his eyes. "Got your eye on anyone in particular then? Since you're so picky now." He glances behind me for half a second and I whirl around to see the table I was just at. I look back at him, surprise written on my face. "Really?"
He shrugs, finishing up with the coffee and setting it on the counter. "I mean, he's sort of, really attractive." He grins and looks back again.
"Alright, good luck with that." He takes the money I hand him and gives me the two foam to-go cups. I wave quickly to Lafayette before I leave, sending Hercules a subtle wink then heading back to the car, a slight spring in my step. For the first time in a long time I feel like things may actually be working out for me.
Quick chapter. Epilogue will be up soon.
