I didn't even want to see Alex again, never mind have to speak to him, but my curiosity overcame my feelings towards him. Which is why, five minutes later, I found myself, still in my pyjamas, walking to the Costa around the corner.
Once I got inside, I ordered a hot chocolate, to warm myself up, and sat in a chair which was easily seen from the door. A few minutes later, a loud bang attracted my eyes to the door, where Alex had just walked in, in his usual attire, plus...Sunglasses? Really Alex? I sighed deeply, which caused Alex to stare straight at me, before looking back at the girl behind the counter and then doing a double take. He stared at me for a while before pulling off his sunglasses, smirking and, drink in hand, sauntering over to me.
'And here I was thinking you wouldn't turn up. My my my, you certainly are full of surprises aren't you?' he chuckled, whilst taking his seat.
'Well you wouldn't know that would you?' I bitterly muttered under my breath before replying audibly with-
'Enough about me, why did you tell me to meet you here? And no more lies Alex, please.'
He cleared his throat before speaking, and when he did, his voice was shaking noticeably.
'I know I must sound like such a loser but jut hear me out okay? Please, Al, I just need one more chance, just let me explain.' I nodded 'I thought I'd moved on from you, thought I was finally happy and could forget about you, but then you just turned up outside my house in a bin,' he chuckled ' I know I was a massive dick to you and I'm so sorry, Al. I was being such a coward but I've realised something. I need to stop being a coward and hiding behind everything, thinking everything's perfect when it isn't. I thought that if I just tried to forget about you, it would work and I could just pretend nothing happened, but it did and rather than trying to forget about you, Al, I need you back. I don't care what it takes, I'm not going to back down and leave you again, I promise. Just let me prove to you, I can change for you, fuck this Flynn guy, Al.'
I burst out laughing, having forgotten that Alex didn't know Flynn was my dog.
'What? What's so funny?'
'Fly- Flynn's my dog!' I chuckled, watching his expression morph from confused to mock anger.
'You knew! You knew I'd think he was your fella! Al!'
I couldn't stop laughing, Alex's face was far too funny to. Finally Alex saw the funny side and started laughing with me. After a few minutes I calmed myself down and let out a breath, deciding for once in my life to do what was best for everyone.
'Alex, what you're saying is all very well but what about Arielle? I can't do this to her, she's such a nice girl and I can tell she loves you!'
Alex snorted in response.
'What?'
'She doesn't love me, she's only with me because everyone thinks we look good together. But neither of us are actually happy. Trust me on this, Al.'
'Then you need to talk to her. Sort things out with her before you get involved with me again, I refuse to ruin anyone's relationship.'
'I will, just for you. Tomorrow morning I'll tell her things aren't working and that I'm not happy with her, then we can be together, at last.'
He took my hands in his and rubbed his thumb over mine, before looking shyly up at me. God he's so cute.
We sat and talked for a while more, just generally catching up on anything and everything before being kicked out and walking home together. On the way, my flip flops decided it was a good idea to break, so rather than let me walk and potentially cut my feet, Alex hoisted me onto his back and gave me a piggyback ride all the way home. Just before we rounded the corner where we could be seen by Arielle, Alex put me down and told me to wait a while before going back so we didn't look suspicious. He then stroked my face with his thumb and kissed my cheek before muttering a quick 'tarrah' and heading round the corner. I waited for five minutes before sneaking back and letting myself into my apartment.
I was just settling down when I heard a screech coming from Alex's place. I ran to the door and was about to bang on their door but then I realised it was already open. I pushed the door open hesitantly and forced myself through the door, terrified of what I might see. Nothing. I stepped round the corner and let out a gasp at what was in front of me. Arielle was on the floor, surrounded by what could either have been blood or wine. Alex stood above her, a smashed wine bottle in his hand. As I gasped, he turned around and saw me stood there.
'Al please this isn't what it looks like I promise!'
He stepped towards me and dropped the bottle. It hit the carpet with a soft thud which made me flinch. Alex reached out his hands to attempt to soothe or silence me I'm not sure. Before he could touch me, however, I dodged out of the way and sprinted back to my apartment, slamming the door behind me. Alex didn't follow me.
-(A/N)- I mean no offence to Arielle in this chapter, this just needed to happen. Hopefully the next chapter will be in Alex's point of view so you'll get to see his side of the story, hope this was okay and not too boring.
