Why?

It had been a month and everything was going great with Alex. He spent pretty much all of his time at my flat and when we weren't there, we were out on 'dates' I guess you could call them- trips to the zoo, dinner together, walks. It was all perfect until that night.

Alex had gone out to get groceries so I was all alone when I heard the familiar sound of Alex's ringtone. I picked up his phone, without checking the caller ID, and pressed Accept.

'Hello?'

'Hey, is Alex there?'

'He's just gone out, umm.. who are you?'

'I'm Arielle, who are you? And why do you have Alex's phone?'

'My name's Alanis, why do you want to speak to Alex?' I replied, avoiding her questions, mainly because I didn't have an answer. I didn't know what 'we' were.

'I want to speak to him because he's my boyfriend, do you have a problem with that?'

My breathing halted and I could feel my heart physically hurting. I forced out a quick 'No.' before hanging up and sinking to my knees, confused, alone and more upset than I'd ever been.

Why hadn't he told me? Did I even mean anything to him or was I just some toy he resorted to when his girlfriend was gone? I stayed like that, curled on the kitchen floor, clutching his phone to my chest until I heard the click of the door. I shot up and ran to my bedroom, locking the door behind me, not caring if he saw me or not.

'Al, is something wrong love?'

I didn't reply to his calls which resulted in his dropping the bags and running to the door. He began banging on in relentlessly, screaming at me to let him in. I could hear his stifled sobs in between shouts but I didn't open the door. I couldn't. After a while his voice grew hoarse and I heard him slide down the other side of the wood.

'Al.' he whispered, his voice cracking. I could practically see him, his eyes red from crying, hair a mess from running his hands through it, palms red from hitting the door in frustration.

'Please. Just, just let me in.' he sounded so pathetic, so feeble. I couldn't do it anymore.

I trudged over to the door and unlocked it much to Alex's surprise, as he fell backwards and onto his back. I would've laughed if the situation wasn't the way it was. He quickly recovered and pulled himself onto his feet.

'Al.' he sounded so relieved and I almost smiled before I remembered why I had locked myself in my room in the first place.

'Sit.' I instructed, pointing to my bed. He shot me a grateful smile and placed himself on the bed. I joined him, running my hands through my hair worriedly.

'Care to explain why you've spent the past three hours holed up in your room cradling my phone?' he joked, before seeing my face and extending his hand, asking for his phone back. I only held onto it tighter, so he grabbed me and tickled me until I dropped it. He picked it up and navigated through it to the call log. As he saw the recipient of the last call, he turned to me, finally understanding.

'I- I'm so sorry.' and with that, he got up and left. That was it. All that time he spent trying to get it out of me and all he can say it 'I'm so sorry'?

Before he could reach the door, however, I called out one last thing to him, for clarification.

'Why?' my voice broke half way though speaking and I assume I sounded pathetic as hell but I needed to know.

He didn't answer me, just turned, shot me a sorry smile and then walked out of the door.

(A/N) I'm sorry for this seriously, this was so hard to write, I'm sorry for making him seem like such a dickhead but I needed to do this, I have a reason, I swear. Thankyou all for reading I hope you all enjoy and don't hate me too much xo
