I Kissed Her Scars
Chapter 18
I was getting ready for the school dance tonight. And it was two days since Emma had left. Was I worried? Without a doubt. I spent all my days driving around to look for her, but not so effectively since I had been in school during those days. And my brother was working, not able to help me look. She didn't show up to school either. And here I was, getting ready for a school dance, for someone I don't even care about.
Emma was the only thing on my mind. I was just imagining going to the dance with her, oh how it would be the happiest moment of my life to be with such an amazing girl.
'I should be looking for her,' I kept thinking. But I know that with her tendency to care about even those that had hurt her, she'd be quite disappointed if I just bailed out. No matter how much she disliked Alice.
I got into my car and started driving to Alice's house to pick her up. She wanted a typical 'date' like they did in the movies for school dances. But people usually just drove there with their mom and dad to meet their dates there or whatever.
As I drove, I still tried to look for her. I drove so slowly, got so many drivers angry at me. But I looked every square inch of the streets I crossed through my car windows just to see if I could find her. Most hope was lost, but I still had a little spec of it. And I would never give up, I would keep looking for her even if I had to walk off the surface of the earth in order to do so.
"Hey Alice," I said nervously as she opened to door of her house.
"Connor! Omigosh hi! You look sooo hot in your outfit," she said using her long polished nail to stroke my chest area.
"Well... You chose it for me. I sure hope you weren't trying to make me look hideous."
"Ahahah," she laughed flirtatiously slapping me, "Oh Connor you're so funny."
"I try," I replied coldly.
"C'mon, let's go," she said dragging me by my arm towards my car.
"Sanders, hey!" said her dad behind us.
"Oh... Hey Mr. Frasier."
"Awww, you two look adorable."
"Daaaddd... Stoooppp..." she whined.
"I must take a picture of you two!!! Come inside!!!"
"Daaadddd....."
"Oh, lighten up Alice!!!"
We walked into Alice's rich ass house. It was freaking huge and it only housed her and her parents. Must've been the life... Besides the fact that they have a bratty daughter.
"Okay... 1... 2... 3!!!"
He snapped our picture. My arm awkwardly around her and her hand stroking my chest very uncomfortably. Did she like have something for my chest??? Thank god I wasn't the girl and she wasn't the guy.
"Oh, I gotta take a stop to the little girls room," Alice said, "Wait for me?"
"Sure," I nodded.
She left and her father came up to me.
"Connor," he said to me, putting his hand on my shoulder.
Oh shoot. Don't tell me this was the talk that I have desperately been trying to avoid ever since I got over Alice.
"Yes Mr. Frasier..."
He chuckled, "Oh, you. Call me Ted... That is... If you're willing to do what I want you to do."
"I dunno... What do you want me to do?"
"Well Connor, I see you as a fine man... Unlike the other fools she's dated in the past."
"Oh... Thanks..."
"I was wondering... Were you by any chance... Wanting to ask my daughter to be your boyfriend tonight?"
Yup. There was the talk I was trying to avoid.
"Oh... Uhm..."
"I don't wanna force you into anything... But you know... If you want... You have my permission... And it would make me the happiest man alive," he smiled.
Was he... Guilting me??? Oh shit oh shit oh shit.
"You know Sir, I know what you're doing."
"And what... Exactly... Is it you think I'm doing?"
"You're trying to guilt me into asking your daughter to be her boyfriend, since you think I'm such a 'Fine young man.'"
"Now Connor, you know I don't say that about just anyone."
"And I don't date just anyone either. And neither will your daughter."
Okay... Slight lie... Since Alice would usually just settle for any good looking guy in her possession. But I had to make a point, right?
"What are you saying, Connor?"
I decided to say what I really learned about love from my experience with Emma.
"You know Mr. Frasier, there are many people in the world. But you can never know someone just by looking at them. Everyone has kept things hidden. Until you take the chance to know them. Love should happen when you find someone who's 'hidden parts' are the parts of which you love and wish to cherish with you forever. Your daughter is a great friend of mine, yes, but I'm afraid I don't love her. I know the hidden parts of her, but it's not who I'm in love with. I'm sorry."
He stood there silent.
"Your daughter deserves someone who truly loves her. That's not me."
I looked behind him, and there stood Alice, silent as well.
"I'm sorry Alice, but I can't take you to the dance tonight."
And just like that, I opened the front door and left the house.
