Xavier Storm's POV

Living at Yale was hard. But, it was a distraction I needed. I couldn't find my mate. For many years, I looked for her. I looked for her in almost all the packs. It was heartbreaking in the start. I became ruthless. Although I loved my pack, I couldn't bring myself to stay there. All my friends found their mates. It was painful to see them with their mates. So, I decided to leave for a while. I went to Yale to get a degree in business.

One of my friends there, Aiden Reed, was a werewolf. He left his pack to study and travel around the world. He was quite famous at Yale as he was the captain of Yale's basketball team. During my stay in Connecticut, we shared an apartment for two years.

Now that the two years were over and my degree was completed, I had to go back to Oakmont. I knew it from the start. After all, I am an Alpha's heir. The pack must be needing a new Alpha now.

Dad was not going to wait any longer. He called last night and asked me to come back as soon as possible. Recalling our conversation, I sighed.

The loud ringing of my phone woke me up from deep sleep. I rubbed my eyes tiredly and looked at the clock on the bedside table. It was 2 am. I reached for my phone beside the clock, its loud noise irritating me. It was dad. I swiped the screen to pick the call.

"Hello son," I heard his voice through the phone.

"Hey Dad," I greeted back wondering why the hell would he call me at this time of the night.

"I am sorry to disturb you at such a late hour but, there is a problem in the pack. I want you to come back first thing in the morning," I heard his tired voice. I blinked again and frowned.

He just said that and disconnected the call.

I know he wanted me to become the new alpha. It seemed like there was a problem with the rogues in the pack. They have been continuously breaching our border for the last 10 days. A warrior in border patrol was injured by a rogue attack. Dad was worried. Our pack consists of 542 members. We are the second largest and strongest pack in America. If the rogues could create problems for such a large pack, they must be planning something big.

I had to go back today. I sighed and got up from my bed. I entered the bathroom and stripped off my clothes. I took a long hot shower. I got out of the shower stall and first dried my body, then my hair using another towel from the hanger.

I exited the bathroom and went to my closet. I decided to wear black faded jeans and a black t-shirt as it was going to be a long drive. I styled my hair in the mirror and got my phone off the charger.

Getting my suitcase that I packed last night, my phone and my wallet, I exited my room. It was 12:30 in the afternoon. Aiden was sitting on the couch watching a football match.

"Hey Aid," I greeted him.

"Hey Storm," he greeted back looking at me.

"You're leaving?" he asked getting up.

"Yeah, it is a long drive," I told him.

"Okay bro, take care," he bro hugged me.

I returned the hug with a pat on his back.

"You too, Reed," I replied and took my suitcase to the door.

I exited the apartment and went to my car and opened the door using my car keys. It was a black Audi R8. I loved my car though. I put the key in the ignition and started the car. I reversed the car out of the parking and started the long journey.

It would take me almost 6 hours to reach Oakmont. I could take a plane and reach my pack in far less time than this but I needed time to think. I honestly didn't have any problem with going back and taking up the Alpha role.

I knew my pack was my responsibility. Dad was getting old. He was fifty already and he needed a break. He has been leading the pack for more than 30 years. I was okay with taking up the responsibility of my pack unless he started pestering me about mating with an un-mated she-wolf.

I couldn't even think of mating with any other she-wolf than my mate. If moon goddess didn't want me to have a mate, I won't have one. I could live my life without one.

Many werewolves had their mates killed but they lived their lives normally. I could also live normally like them. But, dad wouldn't listen. We have argued about it before. I focused on the driving. There was so much traffic on the roads today.

I reached Oakmont at 6:50 in the evening. It was a long tiring ride. There were dark clouds in the sky. Strong winds were blowing. It was going to be a downpour. I reached the pack border. The border patrol greeted me.

"Hello! Alpha Storm," a boy no older than seventeen greeted excitedly.

"Hi," I replied dryly, giving him a pointed look.

His face fell and he shuffled his feet nervously.

"Umm Alpha Sebastian told us that you were coming today."

I raised an eyebrow at him.

"So?" I asked dryly.

I could see the sweat beads forming on his forehead.

"Uh um... noth- nothing," he stuttered out.

I switched on my car and it roared to life.

"Um its jus- uh have a nice day," he squeaked out nervously.

I didn't reply and drove away. I wasn't very nice to people. It's just the way I am. I didn't like to talk much. I was driving towards the pack house when I heard a scream from the woods.

Pressing the brake, I got out of the driver seat. I could hear someone whimpering. I frowned. Who could be in the woods in this kind of weather? I walked towards the voice silently. I could hear someone growling.

My eyes widened at the sight. A girl was pressed to the ground by a brown wolf. His rotten stench reached my nose. I cringed my nose. A rogue. I growled and shifted into my huge black wolf shredding my clothes in the process.

My wolf, Alex, pounced on the rogue and threw him off the girl. I couldn't see the girl's face because of the dark but I could see her eyes widening in shock.

I could smell a sweet honey and lavender scent. My wolf was getting distracted. I focused on the task at hand. I bit the rogue's neck, pulling a big chunk of flesh out of his neck. He growled and clawed at my face. Luckily, I dodged his attack.

I looked at the girl praying that she would understand and run. She did. She got up, picked up her backpack and ran. Alex whimpered at that. He was being weird lately. I focused on the rogue again and pounced on him snapping his neck in the process. His body went limp and I dropped him to the ground.
