Mercy and Watcher were acting strange they became stiff when Spock and Uhura entered the room and they would not make eye contact.

Eventually Kirk was called when Mercy and Watcher were found in the cells they woke up in so long ago.

Spock, Kirk, Uhura and McCoy walked into the brig. "Mercy." Spock said.

Her head snapped up and she looked wild. Her eyes were blown wide and her breathing was very deep and slow. McCoy took her vitals without going in the cell. He did the same with Watcher who was a bit aggressive.

"Doctor McCoy?" Spock asked.
"Bones?" Uhura said at the same time.

"Its just as I thought." McCoy said.

"What is it Bones?" Kirk asked.

"It's their mating season. It looks like they locked themselves in here just before they lost their last bit of control." McCoy informed.

Watcher was sniffing the air.

"What is he doing?" Uhura asked.

"Searching for pheromones. Apparently human women excrete the same pheromones as female Yautja. It's why he locked himself in here."McCoy said.

"What about Mercy?" Spock asked.

"It looks as if she is trying to control herself because from what I learned from them this isn't how female Yautja act during this time." McCoy said. "They are usually more like Vulcans during Pon Farr. Only a bit more aggressive. Luckily she can't smell anything from out here in there or she would be trying to break that wall to get out."

"Why would she want to get out after locking herself in there?" Spock asked.

"All I know is what they told me. According to them, females pursue the males because the smell of any male that is physically fit and 'worthy' makes them then out all logical thought and they almost turn into animals only using instinct. Although Mercy being half human is able to retain her logical thought process if it only be enough to keep her from jumping onto the nearest male." McCoy said.

Watcher looked over to the cage Mercy was in and let out a very angry sounding aggressive roar. To the humans it almost sounded like a lion.

She looked over to her brother. Her blown-wide eyes narrowed and her breathing went down slightly. Then she let out a sound that was a mix of a hiss, chittering and a roar.

"What is going on Doctor?" Spock asked.

"The sounds they are letting out are a way to relieve some of the stress they are building up. Next they'll start punching things. If we can get something in their cells, without them smelling anyone out here, that they can hit it should lower their aggression enough for them to have a vocal conversation that doesn't consist of roars and other noises." McCoy supplied.

"How do you suppose we do that?" Uhura and Kirk asked at the same time.

"We can shut off and seal all doors and vents." Spock started.

"Wear hazmat suits." McCoy continued.

"Then open a window in the glass to get whatever they are going to punch into the cells and close the window." Spock finished.

"Don't do that." McCoy said.

"Don't do what Doctor?" Spock asked

"Think the same things as me." McCoy said. "Its creepy."

Spock just raised his eyebrow.

They successfully got the punching bags into the cells, and Watcher was taking full advantage. Mercy was also punching the bag but not as aggressively and as often as her older brother.

"How long will this last?" Spock and Kirk asked.

"Non-co n'ritja, or life dance, only lasts one earth month." Mercy said her breathing normal enough for her to elicit conversation.

"Mercy, are you alright?" Kirk asked.

"My mind is clear for the moment. It won't be for long, so if you have any questions you should ask them quickly." Mercy replied.

"Why does your species go through this? And how often?" McCoy asked

Mercy made eye contact with McCoy then Spock. "Non-co n'ritja occurs every two earth years. This is because this is the only time full-blooded female Yaut'ja can conceive. To answer the inevitable question; Yaut'ja can have up to five pups without complications. Any more and there is a risk of the pups or the mother's death....or both."

"Why are you so aggressive?" McCoy asked again.

"Female Yaut'ja are usually bigger, taller, stronger, and faster than males. Because of this the females pick their partner but the males can deny. Our species don't usually have one partner, although there are a few who will choose a lifemate but this is very very rare, this causes competition which is the cause for aggression. Watcher smells the other males and he instinctually becomes aggressive, I smelled Uhura surrounded by all these males on board and my Yaut'ja side became aggressive." She grunted and her eyes were slowly getting wider and her breathing was getting slower and heavier. "I am slipping. I do not know when my next thought of clarity may appear but until then please stay away from our cells until non-co n'ritja is over."

"Why did you two exchange growls at each other?" Spock asked.

"A way to identify family amongst many Yaut'ja." and then all rational thought left her once again.

~time skip a month later~

She paced along the glass looking like a lioness in a zoo display. Her brother did the same looking like a Lion that wanted to get out and was looking for a way out. They had both let out an extremely strong musk into the air that if Spock was there he would smell. The humans aboard would be able to smell it too if they got close enough, they'd have to be so close they wouldn't be able to get any closer.
