Night at the Motel

(Lincoln's POV)

The vanzilla had left Royal Woods, and had left Michigan.

In the van, we did our own usual things. Luna sang along to her summer rock tracks, Luan kept telling those jokes, Lori texted Bobby, Leni was looking for a fashion store at Beach City, Lynn was playing around with her baseball, Lucy made a poem, Lana and Lola were fighting once, Lisa with her clipboard, and Lily was asleep. I surprised that she was calm over this Loud van.

The poor thing when you were next to Lynn, is that she kept bothering you. She kept making this bet, whenever a black vehicle passed over, she would punch me. And most people chose black over other colors, so my arms were aching all the way. At least I got the sweet spot.

Apart from my sisters, I accidentally eavesdropped to Mom and Dad's mumbled conversation. And again, they looked nervous.

"Are you sure you've planned this? Away from that zone?" Mom said.

"Yes, honey, I've thought about it. We will stay close together at all times." Dad said.

"And you're sure that we won't be captured by--"

"It's okay honey. Think about good things. Please. It's for the kids--and Lincoln." When Dad mentioned me, it sent me chills.

I decided to forget about that, and that "zone". The trip felt fast as I sang along to Luna's rock tunes. She picked the best of the best, like Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the old Linkin Park (Luna said, "The new Linkin Park sucks bro. It's not even a freaking rock.")

It was 7.30 pm already, and we had to stay for a night at a small motel at Pennsylvania.

We were lucky to have a diner, just next to the motel. Finally, I could get off the van--Lynn was killing me. Dad parked the van at the motel, and after a short while unpacking, we went for dinner. The motel was on a remote area, so no wonder there were almost no lights.

I sat down at the diner that said "The best diner in the world". Seriously. Still, the sandwich was pretty tasty. While the others had pancakes and waffles for dinner, they were still awake for a while, and they looked happy. Even I laughed at Luan's jokes. I loved it when it comes to family.

I looked out of the window beside me. It was dark. Nothing other than the quiet toll road and sparse land surrounding it.

Suddenly, I spotted a movement outside. It came from behind bushes nearby. Although I couldn't see what it looked like, the mysterious figure was almost... human-y. But it was small and more looked like a child. I couldn't explain it further.

Then, something shocked me: That childlike figure hid in the bushes for a while, and then something flew right out of it. It flew higher until I could no longer see that figure.

At that point, I saw wings on the figure's back. Though it was just a glimpse, but I was pretty sure there were wings. Almost like butterfly wings. And that figure wore a dress. Was it possible that she was...?

No. Maybe I was just dreaming. Lisa asked me what happened, and I said, "Just enjoying the dark view."
