Rolling her dark blue eyes she asked," When will you come again? " He knelt down and smiled, " Soon, I promise" he said

Rolling her dark blue eyes she asked,
" When will you come again? "
He knelt down and smiled,
" Soon, I promise" he said.

For her promises means everything,
So she hugged him tightly,
" What will you bring for me? " She asked,
" A doll like you" he said.

But now it's the time,
So he got up and lifted his bag,
That innocent face dropped in sadness,
" Promise dad will soon be home" he said.

It was inevitable,
The scents of sadness spreaded on her little face,
Tears dripping down on the floor,
" Please don't cry, I'll bring more candies" he said.

" No!" She shouted in agony,
" I don't want candies, I need you"
Those words got him in tears,
" Honey, I'll be home soon I promise" he said.

He left her, turning back again and again,
She was watching him with watery eyes,
Played that dad's gifted recorder,
" Stay happy and keep smiling" it said.

As soon as the phone rang,
She hurried, to pick it up, first,
" When are you coming home?" again the same question,
" Next month, on your birthday" he said.

Soon days ended,
And she was exited to meet her dad ,
Phone rang suddenly,
" Happy birthday sweetie, it's your dad" he said.

He added, " I couldn't come,
The war has started,
But I promise I'll be home soon,
Take care" he said.

The war took months,
The little girl grew up slowly,
Still playing that recorder,
Again those same words, it said.

Finally one day, a news came,
' we won the war... '
" So now my dad will be home soon,
I'm so excited." she said.

But she didn't read the news properly,
The whole news was, ' we won the war, but lost him'
Those promises were shattered like a broken glass,
" But he promised me..." She said

She repeated the same words over and over again,
"My dad can't break promise"
True were the words of her dad, so he came back,
Not on his own, but in a coffin with his name on top.

They gave his bag to his family,
So she opened and saw a gift,
On the top it was written ' Happy birthday my doll'
When she opened, saw a doll, same as he promised her to gift.

She closed her eyes and cried and cried and cried,
But she never made a promise with her dad,
She stood and wiped out her tears,
" I'll be a soldier like you" she promised her dad...
