A/N: So, this has nothing to do with A Message to Society, but I need to write this.
I feel like there's something people don't understand about private school kids. Not all of us are super rich. I was talking to my friend about this earlier and people need to understand this.
I've gone to a private, catholic school since preschool, and I'll admit that I've met some pretty rich people, but not everyone was rich. I have 3 sisters and of the four of us, 3 of us are in the catholic school system right now, my oldest sister is currently drowning in student debt. My family isn't by any means rich. My mom works as a chef for a place called LifeScape and my dad's some sort of technician or something, I'm not quite sure. He installs phones. But, we scrape by to afford private school for all 3 of us. The only reason we can afford it is because my school is one of the less expensive ones. The tuition for the middle and elementary school is $4,000 and the highschool is $5,000.
After my parents got divorced, it was harder to pay for 3 students with making 2 house payments, but the payments for my mom's car and my sister's car. My parents recently told us we have to sell my mom's car who'll get my grandpa's old impala and my dad will use his work van, and me and my sisters all got $1,000 grants.
A friend that will not be named, but also goes to private school, has told me she's going to start working when she gets to be 14 so she can afford college when she's older. My oldest sister has a babysitting job and is currently desperate to get a second job to pay off student loans.
People need to understand that we're not all rich. I'll admit, we are still better off, money wise, than other people, but there's a difference between rich and middle class. My family is by no means rich. A lot of my friends from school are by no means rich. But by saying that, doesn't mean I'm saying we're poor, because we aren't. We're middle class. Just going to a private school, doesn't automatically make somebody rich, just like just going to a public school doesn't make somebody poor.
Have you ever heard anyone say "Oh, you go to public school? You must be poor."? No? Because people understand that not everyone at public school is poor. Then why is it so hard to understand that private school kids aren't all rich. I'll admit, some are very rich, but not all are.
So basically, if you go to a public school, and meet somebody who goes to a private school, don't assume they're rich. That's stupid. And if you are really rich and go to a private school, you know who you are, don't be a dick about it. It makes you no better than the rest of us.Sorry if this is basically me complaining, this just annoys me to no end, and I had to write this.
