Demi
As I walked around the Halloween party, watching everyone enjoy themselves, I had to admire my work. I was proud of what I had put together in only a week, with the help of the kids & lots of friends & family. My heart was full, hearing my kids laughing or squealing, with delight, from the fun they were having. It was needed, since Delaney's birthday was only a few days away & Halloween was now tainted with that & another anniversary that chilled me to my core.
My twin girls made me proud with the costumes they chose, off of a website. They were the twins from the movie, "The Shining" & since it was a thriller, I was a proud mom. They also had seen photos of me, when I was younger dressed in scary costumes, so they wanted to do something scary, too. If they weren't so cute, you'd be scared when you saw them.
I caught sight of Nick, while I was walking around & he looked like he was trying to find someone. I had a hunch it was Mercy, because I knew he didn't approve of her costume, but also I knew she was hanging out with some friends, who were boys. The boys seemed sweet when I met them, so I wasn't sure what Nick was so suspicious of.
When Nick saw me approaching, he flashed me a flirty smile, like he was just caught doing something I wouldn't like & he wanted to be cute. I gave him some side eye & shook my head. "You should enjoy the party instead of trying to follow Mercy all night." I said, slipping my arms around his waist.
"I am enjoying this party, my love. I wasn't trying to follow Mercy. I haven't even seen her in quite a while."
"Who were you just looking for then?"
"You." He said, leaning to kiss my forehead.
"Yea, right."
I heard him chuckle as I laid my head on his chest. "Your party is a hit, wife."
I let go of him & looked around, smiling proudly. "Yes, it is. I needed this."
Nick pulled me toward him & kissed the side of my head. "I know." He replied, quietly, since he knew exactly why I needed this.
"I'm going to go look around outside." I said, pulling away from him.
He nodded, then took a drink from the glass he had sat down on a nearby table. "Want me to come with you?" He asked.
"No. You keep enjoying yourself." I winked at him, then turned & headed out of the house.
I was outside for almost twenty minutes, when I realized I saw no sign of Mercy. I was beginning to get suspicious, probably because I knew Nick would be, if he hadn't seen them after walking around the entire party, like I had. I saw Reid & Avery playing a game so I walked over to them. "Have you guys seen your big sister?"
Reid shrugged, since he was too into his game, but my sweet angel, Avery, looked up & answered me. "She was going toward the roses."
