I'm not sure what's gotten into my sister, Mercy. She's making really bad choices, lately. I'm trying to keep her in line, but she's making it difficult.

When my parents went out of town & left us with my grandparents, I thought Mercy would be fine, since she was grounded. I should have known she would try something. Gianna is a bad influence, but I can't dare tell Mercy that or she freaks out. I wished my parents hadn't given Mercy back her cell phone before they left, because then Gianna wouldn't have been able to contact Mercy.

I was in my room, talking to Karleigh on the phone, when Mercy knocked, then barged in. "Did I say 'come in?'" I asked her, my voice loud since I was annoyed.

"I thought you had your earbuds in or something." She shrugged & rolled her eyes toward the ceiling.

I sighed, then heard Karleigh sigh, on the other end of the line. "What do you want Mercy?"

"I want to go to a party, one of my friends is having, tonight."

"Oh, geez." I heard Karleigh say. I knew she was just as annoyed with Mercy as I was.

"And?" I spit out at my sister, confused as to what she wanted from me. "You can't go. You're grounded."

"Grandma might let me go out if you go with me. You tell her we got invited over to a friend's house & tell her you want me to go along so you're not alone." Mercy was speaking so confidently, I was annoyed.

"I'm not lying to Grandma

"I'm not lying to Grandma." I said, then added. "Can you leave so I can talk to my friend?"

"Who you talking to? Is that Karleigh?" Mercy asked with a smirk on her face, that I didn't quite understand.

"Yea. Goodbye, Mercy." I waved at her, hoping she'd leave.

"You won't do this for me?"

"No. I'm not lying for you."

"You suck." Mercy turned & walked out of my room, slamming the door behind her.

"She's got a lotta nerve." Karleigh said with another sigh.

"I know, right? Why would she think I'd lie for her? She's grounded. My grandma knows this."

"I don't know why she's acting out like this." Karleigh replied, her voice sounding sad. "Or why she suddenly hates me."

"Karleigh, she doesn't hate you. She's letting Gianna control her. You guys will be friends again, one day."

"Yea." Karleigh didn't sound convinced, so I changed the subject. We talked for a half hour or so more then I hung up & headed down to the kitchen.

Grandma was in the kitchen, getting herself a glass of water. She smiled when she saw me. "Hey, sweetie. You want a snack?"

"I just came to get a drink."
