Keith. Htiek. K-E-I-T-H. I could say the name as much as I wanted to but it still gave the same chill. Every single damn time. My heart was playing games with my mind.
In an attempt to calm my nerves down and make up my mind on what to do—I turned my radio on. As if that even helped at all because the song playing just brought back more memories.
When we hooked up, we sat down
Made an agreement, we vowed that
That we'd always be together, through whatever
We said that no one would ever get between us
This love would never ever leave us
That was a while ago, oh
I couldn't even count the amount of times I had this song on repeat and here I am watching the reason why it was played, standing in my rearview. How would a rational person approach this situation? If only I knew because I am everything but rational, I'm petty with slim to zero emotions now. So, I honked.
Dress everyday like you'll run into your ex. I'm so happy that's one line of advice I've followed from Nitasha because I want him to see what he lost. The petty part of me was overpowering the little emotional part of me left. Because if I was listening to that side, I would have driven off, gotten my burrito, then went home to binge watch Law & Order: SVU.
His eyes scanned around until he settled on my red Range Rover with a wide array of assorted bedazzled bumper gems. A smirk spread across his face and he breezed over and had his arm above my passenger side window and leaned his head in. "Hey, bighead, you looking good. Where you heading to, looking like a little snack."
You ever roll your eyes so hard you had to refocus after you did it? Me as hell, right now. "Now Keith, we both know I'm a full course meal baby, what are you doing? You especially should know that. What are you doing in Philly anyway, don't you have to be at a Barnes & Noble somewhere in LA?"
Now the whole time I'm talking to him, he worked his eyes from looking me in my face to my current white bodysuit and white denim jeans to my freshly pedicured nails then back up to meet my eyes, giving me that look. "I'm here for business, babygirl. I came by to see yall little meet and greet but I guess it's over now. Seeing that you're about to leave and more than likely go get a burrito, am I right?"
Keith knew me like a book, front and back. If only our story had the typical happily ever after story ending. "Yes, I am. I'm about done with everybody and just want to be in the comfort of my Queen sized bed with Pacino." Pacino is our, well was our pet pug that he gifted me on our 2 year anniversary. Keith knew how much I adored pugs and when he got Pacino for me I fell in love with him.
My phone was consistently buzzing on my thigh and every time it lit up, Keith tried to sneak a peek at it.
"Who's blowing up your line?"
"None of your business, nosey. Mind your business." I start up my car and give him a look to back up off my car. Does he? No, instead he gets in.
I receive the biggest smile instead of any words, "Let's ride, baby. Tell whoever blowing your phone that you with daddy right now so call again later."
I couldn't resist laughing, like stomach is hurting from laughing so hard with tears running down my cheeks. I'm so amazed at how he thought he had the juice like that, maybe last year he could have gotten all this loving.
Before I could correct that whole statement, my phone lit up again 'Suga 💗😜💉', I couldn't even slide it to answer before Keith grabbed the phone my lap and clicked on 'Send Message'. I heard the camera click and him setting my phone on the middle console with a satisfied smirk on his face.
I'm already driving and six minutes away from Qdoba, I always have a sense of calamity come over me when Keith is around. He has that effect. "I hope you know that when I go and pick up my burrito, you're getting left there. The girls are coming over to my house for a Girls Only sleepover, so go ahead and order that Lyft now."
"Whatever you say, but we're gonna chill before you leave for the rest of your promo tour, right?" His eyes looked like an expecting 5 year old who asks his mom for a new toy and awaiting the answer.
Honestly, I'm hesitant to hang out with him in a comfortable enough environment, I know how the both of us get when we're around each and laughing, just having a good time.
"You're allowed to? Last time I heard, you had a little baby who would listen and was crazy, but that's just what I heard."
That side eye I got back from him was vicious, I could tell he didn't like me talking about his 'girl' but did I care? Absolutely not. "She's not my girl anymore and she's just a little crazy but re-" I cut him off, I was parking my car and needed complete concentration so I wouldn't scratch my baby up.
"Okay, so, I'm gonna go pick up my little rolled up heaven, but hit my line and we'll plan out this whole day we're supposed to chill. Bet?" I jumped out my car mid-sentence and readjusted my X hat on my head. I saw the top of Keith's head on the side of my car and he met me, looking down at me smiling with that 'look' he always used to give me before I'd leave him.
I reached up to put my arms around his neck for a hug and his arms went around me perfectly then he rested his hands above my bum, "Don't grab my booty, you ain't slick." We both laughed before I pulled away from him and said bye once more before walking to the entrance while he got into a car with his friend, Algee. "Bye, babygirl!" He hollered like a mad man before pulling off.
I had a smile on my face then my phone was going off again, from 'Suga', I ignored it and went to our message thread.
So that's what Keith did. I had to giggle to myself, probably looking crazy as hell. I called my brother back but was still thinking, I need to not react to how my heart is feeling until I talk to my girls.
