RisenClan- Book One: Death Brings New Life

Chapter 2 ~ BADGER

Ruinstar's POV

~

Ruinstar gripped Nightwatcher's scruff in her jaws as her, Spiritsong, and Margaymask carried his limp body back to camp slowly. Orionoak and Risenspirit were bringing back Blueberry just behind us. Spiritsong had grabbed lavender and stuck it in the tangles of there fur, already the bodies of the freshly dead cats were starting to stink. Ruinstar noticed the cats scrunching there noses but she did not, she new just beyond the scent of her brother's blood was her brothers warm and comforting scent . As they arrived in camp she already noticed cat's sitting in the clearing, there eyes were filled with tears as they noticed there beloved family members and friends dead bodies being brought in. 

Ruinstar noticed at the front of the group Nightwatcher's young apprentice, Sunnypaw. Sunnypaw was a bright golden tabby with sunny yellow eyes, now her eyes looked dull and sleepy at her mentor. When Sunnypaw was just a kitten Nightwatcher had taken and interest of her. She knew that once Sunnypaw came to the apprentice age she would have Nightwatcher be Sunnypaw's mentor. Sunnypaw looked sad and fearful. She looked ready to cry. Sunnypaw was always optimistic and happy. It was hard for Ruinstar to see the young apprentice like this. Sunnypaw's sibling, Hallowpaw sat next to her. His tail was wrapped around her and he licked her gently. He  whisped something into her ear that made Sunnypaw look away.

Also in the front was Ruinstar and Nightwatcher's mother, Hollyheart. She was not a warrior anymore. She had always been so proud of both of them and now she was seeing her only daughter carrying her son to be buried. She cried out and quickly padded over to her son and licked his pelt. "Oh my son, my darling son." She cried.

Ruinstar wanted to get this over with and bury her brother quickly and comfort he mother softly and whisper it will be okay in her ear. They arrived on the other side of camp wear the remains of all of the cats of the past remain, but the bones did not mean anything. Where they really were was with StarClan. Orionoak and Margaymask began to dig there claws into the dirt to make enough room to bury the cats. Ruinstar buried her face into Nightwatchers bloody tabby fur trying to take in his scent for the last time. A few minutes later she went over to Blueberry and licked her ear quickly. "I'm so sorry my dear friend." She whispered into her ear. When the hole was big enough they gently laid the cats bodies in the ground and watched as the dirt slid back over the cats bodies to there resting place.

A clan meeting was needed. She knew until she held one the cats would remain outside. She jumped onto the top of her cave where she had held all the clan meeting before then, and memoried flashed before her. The most fond one was of there previous leader, Fairstar. She remembered being up there with her brother and Risenspirit as they all received there mentors, and how excited they were. She shook the thought away.

"Cats of RisenClan, gather below the large cave for a clan meeting." She meowed.

She watched as cats gathered quickly and looked up. She sighed deeply and blinked a few times taking deep breaths. She knew once she was all done here she could crawl back into the darkness of her cave and sleep this off.

"Cats of RisenClan, as you have all seen tonight we have lost two very loyal cats of our clan, Nightwatcher and Blueberry have passed onto StarClan now. They were fearless and smart warriors and they will be missed. From now on no cat will cross Hard Gravel with out good reasoning. If any cat does not ask before crossing they will be punished for there actions." 

Cries of protest broke out.

"But Ruinstar! It's the fastest way to get to gatherings from here." Gentleheart said softly.

"There are others way around Hard Gravel, and we will use them." She said simply. 

Gentleheart nodded but others were still in disagreement. "This is such a mouse brained idea." Her eyes searched for who would say such a thing, Tidepool. She sighed and wasn't sure how to respond. She caught Risenspirit's smiling face and he nodded for her to go on.

"Tidepool, I do believe I am leader. What I say goes." That shut him up...Ruinstar caught a glimpse of Sunnypaw. Now or never.

"One last thing and then all of you should be off to your dens, Sunnypaw, please step up." She watched the sad apprentice take a few steps forward. "I call upon my warrior ancestors to give this apprentice a new mentor. Sunnypaw, you have lost your first mentor, so now your new mentor will be me."

Nero's POV

~

Nero and his siblings padded through the woods. Outside it was still sark but the moon was letting in some light. Nero could see his brother Kipper in front of him shaking. He was a a scardy cat. Caesar was going strong talking to Immy quietly and Fiera was just next to Nero her red cameo pelt shining brightly in the moon light. He smiled at her as she looked over, but Fiera did not look so hopeful.

"It's all right Fiera, we will find mom." He meowed.

Fiera nodded and they padded on. All of a sudden Caesar and Immy stopped in front making Nero, Kipper, and Fiera run into them. Just a few feet away a large animal like none they had ever seen before stood tall, towering over them. His body was large and black and he had a white stripe going down his noes.

"Hello little friends." He whispered to them. "Have you come to join me for a late night snack."

Ceasar took a large step forward bravely. "No, we are just passing through looking for our mommy." His brown ear twitched.

The large animal smiled. "I bet she is looking frantically for a couple of young ones like yourselves." The animal took a step forward.

"Y-Yes sir" Caesar meowed.

"Well you should join me for a meal, I bet you are hungry!"

"No thank you mister." Nero meowed.

"But I insist!" He said.

Fiera tapped Caesar and Immy with his tail. "Lets get out of here." She whispered. Fiera, Nero and Kipper took a few steps back followed by Caesar and Immy. They then quickly turned around and began to run. They heard the animals large steps bowling after them. He was chasing them. Nero was running as fast as his tiny legs would take him.

They were a few fox lengths in front of the badger but he was catching up fast. They dodged the trees as they ran. Nero noticed just ahead a small hole in the tree trunk. "Quickly guys!" He yelled and ran into the hole. Fiera barreled in after him then Caesar, then Fiera, then Immy followed by Kipper. Right after Kipper got in the animals large nose was trying to reach into the hole to scoop up the kits. It was to big, they were safe for now.

Eventually the animal got bored and ran off. The kits curled up with each other and drifted to sleep in the cool nights air.
