All the readiness for the weekend, rushed away as I woke up. When I woke up it dawned on me that I had to go to work - and I was almost late. I jolted up and put some pop-tarts in the toaster then rushed back to my room to get ready. I put on my shirt that had the places name on it - Weston's Pasta Place- and threw on some black shorts. I quickly put my hair in a ponytail and threw my chucks on. I rushed into the kitchen and grabbed my pop-tarts just as my other best friend Gabe rolled into the driveway. He honked his horn as I walked grabbed my bag and locked the door.
"Come on girl we're gonna be late!" He yelled from his cheap ass car.
"I'm sorry I value sleep more than ten bucks an hour, but here I am." I sarcastically replied as I got into his car
"So looking forward to washing tables again and again today?" I asked him
"Ugh, GOD no, but I am looking forward to what's after work."
"Why what's more interesting than spending the whole day at a sink?"
"Weeeell David and I are going out for dinner." He said dreamily
"Oooo, were?" I asked
He turned on to an intersection at a long red light, "That fancy one on Marvin Place."
"I've heard good things about that one. So are you finally going to ask him to be your boyfriend?" I said seriously
Gabe blushed, "Well, maybe, but I don't know, I don't think he likes me like that yet.."
"Well I think he's totally into you, but you do you, mk?"
"Okay." He replied, "So, what about that Cecilia girl you like?" He took a turn a few blocks away from work.
"Well I haven't seen her in a while, I think sometimes wrong." I said furrowing my brow in concern
"Well she could be on vacation, you know to get away from that hellish school." He said shuddering at the word school
"Yea I guess." I said as I looked out the window
"Look," He said getting really serious, knowing I was concerned, "I know you really like the chic and all but have you even talked to her, and I mean a full on conversation?"
"N-no." I replied weakly
"So she could be in like the bahamas or some shit like that." He continued in a softer tone, "So don't worry I was the same way when I first had a crush on David. Promise me you won't worry so much. Okay?"
"Okay?" I replied
"Pinky promise?" he said holding out his pinky
"Pinky promise." I said as I joined my pinky with his
"Good." He said finally
The rest of the ride was a silent one, once we got to work all the fun was drained and replaced with responsibility. As we walked in the kitchen Gabe put on his dirty apron and I put on my waist apron and we parted ways for the time being. It wasn't that busy today at lunch surprisingly, but there were a few people from school I recognized. I didn't recognize them at first, but when I got to their table I recognized a few of Fiona's other friends, three of them were there.
"Welcome to Weston's Pasta Place. I'll be your server today." I said as I normally would any other customer
"Oh hey Rowan, I didn't know you worked here!" One of them said in recognition, it was Darla, one of the nicer ones. Darla was just one of those girls who looked mean but was the nicest person you could know.
"Oh yea I started last month." I replied. After they ordered their drinks I came back to get their meal orders.
"And what can I get you ladies?" I asked them all
"I'll have some fettuccine alfredo." Darla answered
"Good choice." I added, it may suck working here but the food here is pretty amazing if I do say so myself. I addressed the other two. "And what would you like Ashlyn?" And then there's Ashlyn the one who hated anyone better that her, so basicly everyone, and the girl who put on three pounds of MAC products everyday
"Uhh, I'll take the salad." She said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world
"The pasta salad or the caesar salad?"
"Uhh, the caesar salad. Did you hear me say pasta? No. I'm trying to cut my carb intake down, oh and take out the eggs." She said bluntly
"Uhh, Ash. Could you be any ruder?" Darla said embarrassed of Ashlyn
"So I take it you want the croutons left out to?" I replied in the politest way possible
"What? Oh no, I love croutons." She said idiotically
"Okay then. And what will you have Barb?"
"I'll have the meatball spaghetti." she stated quietly. Barb was one of the quieter girls, she was very bashful, loved sweaters, and was a childhood friend, but we lost touch along the way. She was also my very first crush.
"Another great choice!" I announced loudly like she was the winner to a game show, "Your orders will be here soon."

"How was work?" Fiona texted me that night
"Fine. I waited on your friends." I replied
"Who?"
"Ashlyn, Darla, and Beth."
"Was Ash rude as usual?"
"Yep. But it was an amount that I could handle ."
"That's surprising considering how much she hates you"
"She only hates me because I'm fabulous"
"True"
"First time I've seen Beth in a while..."
"Yea, she says she wants to get in touch again, but you know her, she thinks you don't like her anymore"
"What, no , tell her that I want to get in touch too" As I typed I thought of some old memories, like when we had a birthday party at her house, and she was sad because no one else came, but then I reminded her of how much more cake we would get. And then we had horrible stomach aches because we had way too much cake. I laughed at the memory.
"kk, will do" "you want her number?"
"sure"
"alright. see you later"
"night"
