We only had a few days left at Ellie's beach house. Martin and I spent most of our days pretending to fight and yelling at each other, but on one particular day something happened.
It was Saturday night. Ellie had invited some of her friends over at her house for a party on the beach. I had talked to Martin explaining to him that we should avoid each other as much as possible and try not to look suspicious. We only had a day left then we would all be going back home, so, although it was hard to avoid Martin, I had to pull through.
I put on a white play-suit that had a sheer layer over it and I accessorized it with a gold belt, curled my hair and put on some light make up and then I made my way downstairs. Bare foot I made my way to the beach. At a point, I felt as someone was following me and as I look behind me, I saw that it was Mark. "Jesus Mark, you scared me!" I said to him. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you", he said whilst scratching on his neck. "Can I ask you a question?", he then asked. I simply responded with a nod. "What's going on between you and Martin?", he hesitated. With a blank expression I simply responded; "What do you mean?". He then followed by saying, "Well. In the beginning of the trip you two were all cute and in love and then suddenly you hate each other, and your broke up?", he asked with a questioned expression. I suddenly stopped walking and as Mark noticed, so did he. "Well, first off, I don't think its any of your business, and excuse me, what about you and Ellie?", "What about me and Ellie", he asked. "Well she was and STILL is cheating on you!", I spat. "What?!"
Looking at Mark, I could tell you that he was truly shocked and clueless. "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?" he yelled. I slammed his body in mind and hugged him. Mark was a very nice guy, he always was and he didn't deserve to be cheated upon, especially by a girl like Ellie and I really hated being the one that broke the news to him. I then went on to explain to him what Ellie did with Martin. I saw Mark's heart break in front of me but I knew I couldn't really do anything but I knew an old friend that might help; Alcohol
I guided a very confused Mark into the house and I made my way to the living room were there were several trays of shots ready to go. I placed Mark in front of me and I offered him a shot, and as I suspected he took it immediately. We drank a few shots and then we went to living room were everyone was dancing. For the first time, in a very long time, I was able to just let go and enjoy the night. I was not aware at how close me and Mark where dancing until I felt a pair of hands yanking me away from the dance-floor.
"What the hell?!", I asked, "Martin?", I suddenly said coming back to my sense. "What the hell are you doing with him?" he spat. "Nothing, we were just dancing and you know we should not be seen together." "Well I hope that you still what the actual plan is" he said dropping my hands roughly and walking away.
I decided to make my way back to the beach, hoping, this was just a dream.
*Disclaimer: I do not believe one necessarily needs alcohol to forget about a heartbreak or any type of sadness, but for the sake of the story, let's go with it*
