A/n: I just want to thank everyone for reading! I'm having writer's block and I'm struggling with how to phrase things in this chapter and uh yeah.
-Connor POV-
◇◇◇◇Time Skip to Monday brought to you by *insert a believable reason here*.◇◇◇◇
Ugh.
Connor hated school even more than the average person. It seemed worthless to him. Why did he need to know how to write an explanatory essay in the correct format, or know the circumference of a circle? How would that enrich his life?
It had only been last Monday that Evan had saved his life. He had an...eventful week.
That was an understatement.
Mondays were one of the reasons Connor listed for wanting to die. He had never considered the possibility of living long enough to make something of his life and get a higher education. But now things were different. There was Evan.
Connor pulled himself out of bed so he could get ready. Maybe he could be more nice today. Or at least try.
He ventured downstairs, hoping that his father had left early or at least wasn't at the table.
Connor's mom and Zoe were at the table. Zoe almost choked on her cereal in her surprise when she saw Connor. He never ate with them on time. He awkwardly sat across from his sister. Connor's mom rushed over with a plate of pancakes and set it down in front of him.
"Thank you," he said politely.
Zoe stared at him, mouth wide open.
Connor resisted the urge to snap at her, "What are you looking at?!"
Zoe finally asked, "Who are you and what have you done with my brother?"
Connor used all of his willpower not to make a snarky comeback. Instead, he offered her an invitation, "Do you want to walk with me and Evan to school?"
Zoe shook her head, "I can't. I promised Alana that I would meet her before school to finish the project." Zoe glanced at her phone. "Aaaand I'm late."
She grabbed her bookbag and hurried outside.
Connor returned to his pancakes.
"How's your leg, sweet heart?" Connor's mom asked.
Connor shrugged, "Better." It wasn't better. It was the same. But it was nice to be positive for once.
Connor cleared his dishes and put on his shoes with slight difficulty.
"Have a wonderful day, Connor!" Connor's mom called.
"I will!"
Being happy felt weird for Connor. But a good weird.
He relied on his crutches to get him to Evan's house, going slower than would be ideal.
When he knocked on the door, Evan opened it, "Hey, Connor!"
Connor didn't hesitate to kiss him, causing Evan's face to flush.
Evan stood on tiptoe to peck Connor's cheek. Then they started walking.
Connor didn't know what to do with all this happiness.
About halfway to school, Evan spoke, "I have a surprise for you."
"You do?"
Evan nodded and pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Connor.
It was a colorful flyer. In big bold letters across the top it read, LGBTQ+ Club (Join Today).
