The dirty blonde slowly walked past Ailanna's room before stopping dead in his tracks. The sound of a soft, plush hum seemingly made things go blurry to his eyes, his senses dulling as his blue irises turned a crisp, clear aqua, like the clear waters of Hawaii. His body became drawn to the beautiful voice, and before he knew what he was doing, he stopped. With confusion, he looked at his surroundings, then realized that he was now inside of her room.

The girl sat still, breathing heavy, sitting up now watching the man with caution. Her inhumanly blue eyes roamed his face with hesitation.

"I'm sorry, I should have knocked. My apologies, ma'am." Steve said with an awkward but gentle smile plastered on his face. He looked around the room once more, at a loss for words, not knowing what to say to the mysterious, yet beautiful, girl that sat before him.

"Were you the one humming?" He questioned, his eyes softening when he saw her swallow tightly, her eyes looking anywhere but him.

Shaking her head yes as a response, he nodded, wanting to ask her more questions, but not startle the girl at the same time. She looked up at him.

"Can you talk?" He questioned again, taking a step closer to the girl who sat on the edge of bed.

Not responding, she looked away from his blue eyes. Steve gave a short sigh, accepting that the girl most likely wanted to be alone. He knew how it felt to be that way. He had given the silent treatment to his old best friend Bucky many of times when his mother was sick. He knew that Ailanna needed space, so he decided he would grant her that.

"If you need anything, feel free to let us know. We're only the push of a button away," He genuinely said, gesturing slightly to the small red button that hung on the wall. With one small nod, he left her room, thinking that she was the most mysterious girl he had ever met, yet he was so drawn to her that it puzzled him beyond belief.

She watched as he quietly left the room, a million things running through her head that she almost felt dizzy from her thoughts. Laying back down on the comfortable bed, she tried to wrangle her thoughts together, experiencing a strange feeling.

"Home," she thought in her head, wondering if her sisters were trying to find her, or if her father was angry and disappointed at her.

She left home without warning, she left her groom, who she never wished to marry in the first place, at the altar. She left her sisters hoping for a fairytale ending that never would have happened down there. Somewhere deep down inside of Ailanna, she knew she was destined for more than just living in an underwater kingdom. She knew that she was meant to walk on two legs, to lead a life elsewhere.

She just felt terrible about leaving everyone she's ever loved behind over a childhood dream, but to her it was more than a dream. It was a destiny. It was a calling. It was a future. A future full of so many exotic things that she could ever have imagined, something she could never read in a book.

With a silent sigh, she rolled over on her back and gazed up at the ceiling, opening her mouth to echo a small word, an almost plea, as a tear crept from her eye. "Home."
