The king of the seas, Poseidon, sat in silence, awaiting the news of his youngest daughter's return. Nobody spoke of anything to the king, worried that he would be angered. Ailanna's sisters sat in their shared room, trying to keep themselves occupied. They were worried and afraid as to why their sister hasn't returned home. Even the man Ailanna was set to marry was worried he may never see his soon-to-be wife again.

Poseidon wondered why his daughter, who had everything she could have ever wanted, would run away. She was the golden girl of the palace who was a mystery to everyone, who wanted to know everything and try new things. She would often ask questions about the world, but she would never be satisfied with the answers she received. Poseidon sat in an attempt to gather his thoughts, recalling to when he was once the happy king of the seas, who was filled with love and happiness to the outside world. Now he was filled with hate and anger towards humans and only saw them to worship at his feet.

*THEN*

The king stood close by, watching the women he loved so dearly hold their newly born child in her arms. The brunette looked back at the god, who had a bright smile plastered on his face. The mother walked slowly towards Poseidon, watching as the small being in her arm's ocean blue eyes looked up at her own.

"Isn't she beautiful, Poseidon?" The mother mumbled wondrously, her index finger being grabbed by the infant.

"Yes, she is." He replied, taking the small child into his arms, cradling her, afraid to lose her.

"I've always wanted this with you." Poseidon spoke, his large hand caressing the small baby's cheek softly.

"A child?" She questioned, her perfectly curved eyebrow raising.

"Well, yes," Poseidon chuckled lowly. "But I've always wanted you to live with me, Calista." The god uttered, smiling at the brunette, his pearly whites shining brightly from the light overhead.

"And if I do?" Calista challenged.

"What do you mean, 'if I do?' We'll be a family. You'll be my Queen of the seas, and you will raise my other daughters who adore you. But I must remind you, my love," He paused, placing the child down into the cradle gently before looking back up to the perplexed brunette.

"Remind me of?" She drawled out, and Poseidon sighed.

"If you agree to be this child's mother, and become my queen, you will never be able to come back to earth. It is forbidden." Poseidon spoke thoroughly.

Calista shook her head as she started to pace the room, her heart racing as tears filled her eyes.

"You want me to leave my own family and friends behind?" She questioned incredulously, her head shaking as anxiety nipped her patience away.

"Yes, to be with me and your true family. Do you not care for your own daughter, our precious Ailanna?" Poseidon questioned, placing a hand on Calista's cheek.

"Of course I do, but do you not realize what you're asking from me is a lot? I won't be able to see my own mother or father again, if I leave with you, they'll be worried sick about me." Calista choked, tears cascading down her face.

"For our family!" Poseidon yelled, beginning to become angered by the words that fell from the woman he loved's lips.

"I can't!" She yelled back, causing Poseidon's eyes to widen at her outburst, and at the betrayal she had laid upon him.

With the words that had been given to him, Poseidon had already made his decision, like Calista had made her's, and he reached into the crib, taking his slumbering child into his arms.

"Then you may never see your daughter again." He declared quietly, his heart shattering into a million pieces at the thought of never seeing his dearest Calista again.

"I'm her mother!" Calista yelled, hearing the cries of her beautiful child for the first time, and also the last time.

"Not anymore," Poseidon spoke, his words trembling with sadness. "From this day forward, you will no long remember your own child or me." Poseidon declared, not looking at the brunette, whose memories of her own child and the man she had once loved faded into a black abyss.
