"Lola sweetie, wake up dear." I felt someone shake my shoulders gently. I groaned and placed my pillow over my head, hoping that would drown out the voice of my mother.

"Lola don't make me go get Alex." she huffed.

I sat up and looked at her. "Why are you waking me up at-" I paused and look at my bedside clock. "3:25 (pm)?" I asked.

She crossed her arms. "Do you even hear yourself. It's 3:25. Get up, we have things to do!"

She walked over to my curtains and pulled them apart swiftly. I hissed at the blinding light. Mom looked at me. "Do I have a vampire or a daughter?"

She then proceeded to pull the covers off me. "C'mon, get ready, we're going somewhere."

I yawned and scratched the back of my neck. "Going where?" I asked.

"To your new house Mrs. Parker. Jason and his mom are going to be there so wear something nice."

I stiffened and turned towards her. "Never call me that." I spoke with venom laced with my words.

Mom stared at me. "Call you what? Mrs. Parker?"

"Mom stop! Don't fucking call me that!" I was now standing up.

"Okay dear, I-I'm sorry." she apologized.

She turned to leave the room and a wave of guilt washed over me. "Mom wait!"

She turned around, facing me. "Yes?"

"Look, I'm really sorry. I'm just still trying to adapt to these new changes and what you called me just sent me over the edge. I'm sorry if I made you feel a certain way."

Silence settled among us both.

"It's fine Lola. I know all that's happening is a lot of things to process and take in. I'm sorry if you feel your father and I are taking over your life."

"Well, you kind of are." I said.

She gave a sly smile."The limo will be waiting outside."

She left the room and I commenced onto my morning routine. After brushing my teeth and taking a shower, I decided on what to wear. I chose some pastel pink skinny jeans and a gray hoodie. I slipped on some gray all stars that matched the hoodie. I reached for a stick of minty gum on my dresser, unwrapping it and tossing it in my mouth, savoring the explosion of minty goodness. After layering on some lip gloss I decided on putting my hair into a messy bun. I didn't feel like dealing with it. I trudged down the stairs feeling my back pocket for my phone. I sighed as I felt the bulge.

I walked out the front door to see Richard standing beside the black limo door.

"Good afternoon Madame Lola." He greeted.

"Hi, Richard I greeted back."

He opened the limo door and I slipped in to see mom scrolling through something on her phone. When Richard closed my side door, she looked up.

"You'll love the new house, it's honestly breathtaking." She continued to gush and go on about how glorious "my new home" wasI tuned her out and ignored everything she said. The window was my only escape. If only I could take it. The drive took 30-45 minutes. We turned onto a road that seemed abandoned, then Richard made a right turn and entered a huge driveway. My jaw dropped and I gawked. Richard looked through the rear view mirror. "Mrs. Jones, what is the code to open the gates?" Richard asked. I couldn't stop looking at the huge mansion that stood before us. If a mansion is even what to call it. It was like a mansion and a castle came together and had a baby.
