You ran down your driveway to not miss your bus. You slung your bag back over your shoulder as you sprinted up to the bus. The driver reluctantly reopened the doors and gave you a long sigh as you hopped onto the bus. You gave him a smile as you took a seat. You attempted to slow your breathing and racing heart as you rummaged through your bag for your earbuds. You lived about 30 minutes from your college and you rode the local bus to get there. You didn't have a car. If you would have had a bike, you would've ridden it. You finally found your earbuds and pulled them out. In doing so, you spilled some of your hot coffee on your shirt. "Sh*t!" You exclaimed as the burning sensation hit your skin. You pulled some tissues out and dabbed your shirt. This was one of your mother's shirts. You wore her clothes to feel close to her.
When you were about 11, your father left your family. It was hard on you and your mother. She slipped into depression, while you struggled to be her anchor. Soon, you'd be the only one left. Her depression got worse. You had to drag her to a therapist for help. She began to show signs that she was getting better. Then it happened. You two were walking home from a movie, talking about it and laughing as you remembered the funny parts. It had been so long since you two had laughed. Suddenly, she was thrown up against a wall and you were snatched from behind. You tried to scream, but you were muffled by a leather gloved hand on your mouth. You captor took you and your mother down an alley. You watched in shock and horror as they forced you to watch one of the men rape her. It still gives you chills to this day. Your mother was a strong woman, and was not going to go down without a fight. She kicked and screamed until she too was muffled. But, they muffled her screams by stabbing her over and over. Blood pooled under her body. The two men ran away leaving a girl and her dying mother alone. You quickly called 9-1-1, because that was what you were taught to do in bad situations. You clutched your mother's hand as she took one last shaky breath.
"I love you so much, (Y/N), more than you know."
You felt tears stream down your cheeks as you lightly shook her and screamed her name. The paramedics arrived, but they were too late. The events of that night left you emotionally scarred. You were only 11. You somewhat felt guilty for your mother's death, like you could have done something. But you were only 11. You didn't know any better.
You snapped out of your thoughts as the bus reached your stop. You hopped off and headed to your first of many classes for the day.
--------------------------------------
You opened the door to your home and sighed. It was a long day of boring classes. You threw your bag on the couch and searched your fridge for food. You pulled out an apple and took a bite out of it as you shut the fridge door. You plopped down on your couch and picked up your phone. You opened up YouTube and searched through your notifications to see if Markiplier had posted. You loved that man so much. His humor and adorable laugh is what helped you stay strong in those dark times. When you felt worthless, you watched him and instantly felt better. He was your savior.
You didn't see any new videos and were slightly confused. You checked the time and realized that he should have posted an hour ago. "Sometimes he gets busy or gets behind on his schedule. Maybe he has something in the making." You thought, reassuring yourself that it was okay. You decided to head to your room and get dressed in pajamas. You changed into sweatpants and a tank top. You threw your hair up into a messy bun. You walked over to your desk and opened your laptop. "Maybe he posted now?" You thought as you put in your password to your computer. You threw away the apple you had finished and opened up Google chrome and typed in YouTube. You clicked on it and went to your subscriptions, since you were already signed in. You scrolled through and found that Mark had posted a video called "Markiplier: The Movie ". You giggled at the title and quickly clicked on it. It was a montage of all of his personalities and his friends in one big "movie". There were sad parts, which Dr. Iplier was the star off. There were romantic parts, funny parts, and also scary parts. Darkiplier appeared on the screen in front of you. His eyes were fixed on yours and he sat calm and suave. He smoothed out his suit as he spoke. "You thought you could run forever? You can't hide from me. I will always find you. He lifted a knife and had his arm ready to strike. "Goodbye," he said as the video went to static. Soon, the "credits" rolled and you let out a sigh of relief. It felt like he was staring directly at you. Yeah, he's only looking at a camera, but you felt his eyes on you. A shudder went down your back and you shook your head. "Why am I getting so worked up over this? It's just a fictional personality the community has given Mark that he put in a funny video. It shouldn't matter this much." You thought as you looked at the clock on your computer. 10:45. You yawned and stretched your limbs as you figured you should get some sleep. You put your hand on the mouse and closed the Google tab. What was that?! You blinked your eyes a few times in disbelief. Was that- no, he isn't real. You could have sworn you saw Darkiplier's image in the corner of your computer screen when you closed the tab. You shook your head and rubbed your eyes. Maybe you were more tired than you thought. When you opened your eyes, you jumped, startled by the image you saw on your screen. When you looked back, it was gone. No, he was gone. Dark definitely appeared on your laptop. "You're being irrational," you told yourself. "You said it yourself, he isn't real. Your mind is just playing tricks on you. Just get some sleep, you're super tired." You decided to listen to your mind and go to bed. You curled up under the blankets and shut your eyes. You shook at what you saw. Dark's image was still there, even in your mind. A video had never affected you like this before. You blinked a couple of times and tried shutting your eyes again, this time he was gone. Satisfied, you dozed off into sleep.
--------------------------------------
You woke up shivering. You looked around and saw that your blankets were off of you and your room was completely chilled. You looked at your alarm clock for the time. 4 a.m. You groaned as you pulled your blankets back on and shoved your head into one of your pillows to muffle out a squeaking noise. When it wouldn't stop, you angrily huffed and threw your blankets off of you. Your arms instantly became chilly and you rubbed them for warmth. You got out of bed and looked around until you spotted it. You window was left open and it squeaked when the wind blew and opened it more. You shuffled over to it, closing and locking it. You looked at it with a puzzled look. "I don't remember leaving this open," you questioned yourself. "Then again, maybe I was so tired I don't remember it." You weren't satisfied with your rational answer. Something in you told you it wasn't right. But you fought your intuitions and were about to walk back to bed when you noticed something. You looked at the window pane and saw claw marks? Why were they here? "Maybe an animal tried to get in," your brain tried to rationalize, but you were tired of listening. This was definitely not of an animal. You ran your fingertips over the markings and gasped when you felt something come up behind you. Before you could react, a hand covered your mouth and grabbed your waist.
"Hello, baby," a voice said darkly. Tears streamed down your cheeks as you flashed back to the night your mother died. Adrenaline kicked in and you decided to fight. You bit the man's hand, which caused him to yelp. You took this time to try to unlock the window and escape. Just as you were about to push it open, the man regained his grip on you. "You're not getting away that easily. Sleep." He said as he clamped his hand to your mouth. You were confused why he told you to sleep. You didn't understand why he expected you to sleep while he held you captive. You shook your head 'no' as you began to feel very drowsy. He just let out a dark chuckle, one that you would never forget.
