14 ∞ the girl who walked through time
It was hard to resist the urge to shiver as Lily watched Isaac pour ice into the last metal bath that Deaton had pulled from the deep depths of the clinic. There were herbs that she didn't recognise scattered in them and the three baths were all laid out side by side. Behind each of them was a table which Lily thought that she'd probably have to sit on. Scott, Stiles and Allison had returned with the items that were special to each of their parents and were now getting changed for the baths. Once the packet of ice was empty, Isaac looked up at her, giving her a look that meant 'it's time'.
Releasing a deep breath, she nodded, walking over to the table and hoisting herself on it. Scott, Allison and Stiles both came in the room, dressed in all black. Lily wanted to make a joke about how dramatic it was – thinking back to that night long ago at the Hale house that she'd dressed in all black to go save Derek. Who would have even knew that this is where they'd be? Each of them came over, handing her the things they'd bought that were special for each of their parents.
"My dad's silver bullet," Allison told her, handing over a silver bullet. She made brief eye contact with Lily and in that time, Lily managed to see the tears that were in her eyes. She didn't say anything though, turning and heading to face her bathtub. Lily rolled the bullet over in her fingers, sensing the huge weight of emotion that followed it.
Scott came over next, sending her the best smile he could. "My mom's watch," Scott whispered. Lily nodded; she recognised it. Doing her best to return his smile, she took the watch. Melissa had been given the watch by Scott's dad before everything had gone wrong in their relationship. After giving the watch to her, he did the same as Allison, standing in front of the tub. Lily hated the formality of it all, feeling like they were doing some kind of ritual – which she realised, they kind of were.
She'd been trying not to cry the whole time but she could feel the tears burning her eyes as her brother came over, their dad's badge in his fingers. Stiles swallowed, staring down at the badge for a long moment before placing it in her hand. "Dad worked really hard to earn this," Stiles sighed, "And look at how easily dented it was." He frowned at the badge but Lily could tell he was worrying about more than that.
"He'll get a new one," Lily reassured him.
Stiles didn't say anything, just placing a hand on her head affectionately and nodding. With that, he joined the other two, coming to stand in front of his own bathtub. Holding in a nervous sigh, Lily placed the items in her hands, resting them on her lap. All of them meant something to each of them but she would trade anyone of those items for any of their parents back. It was strange how importance came and went so quickly.
"Those items will tether you to these three and make it easier for you to find your parents," Deaton explained, "Now before we do this, there are some things you need to understand. Not only will you be essentially turning the Nemeton into a magnet for supernatural creatures but it will affect the three of you as well. You won't be able to see it but you'll feel it every day for the rest of your lives. It'll be a kind of a darkness around your heart, and permanent like a scar or a tattoo." Deaton paused, looking back at Lily, "For you Lily, the effects are a little less predictable. You could come out of this perfectly fine or you could never wake up. It'll most probably be something in between. With that in mind, are you sure you want to do this?"
No one said anything but it was obvious from the silence that they had all resigned themselves to doing this. It was happening whether or not it was a good idea – which it probably wasn't. Deaton then turned his attention Isaac and Lydia, explaining the need for an anchor. Lily faded away from the conversation slightly, eyes drifting the items in her hand. She could do this. She was going to do this. Looking up, she saw her friends were in the bathtubs – they could do it.
