It had been a couple weeks since the heart-breaking dispute that happened between Jodie and Keyaan and they had been trying to build a friendship for the sake of their feelings. Feelings that were slowly but surely resurfacing. They had been hanging a lot lately and Jodie couldn't help but form a bond with Kairi.
She was an amazing baby girl. She was nine months with an humorous personality already. Jodie had grown so close that she found herself taking her home overnight when Keyaan had to work late.
The two hadn't really sat down and confessed their demons fully but they had an mutual understanding on how they wanted things to play out.
They wanted their feelings to come on their own and not try to force them. Even though she didn't want to admit it, Jodie still felt a certain type of way towards Keyaan and vice versa.
Fortunately, today was one of those days when Jodie babysat Kairi while Keyaan was at work. She had just woken up for a nap and was cranky from being hungry. Jodie was currently at Keyaan's house since she had stayed over the previous night.
Kairi's soft whimpers sounded throughout Keyaan's bedroom causing Jodie's attention to leave from the interesting episode of Orange is the New Black and focus onto the squirming child. She sat up slowly placing her back against the black headboard and grabbing Kairi into her arms.
"Aw fat mama, what's the matter? Huh? You hungry?" She cooed placing the green pacifier into her mouth to calm her down temporarily. Footing across the cold hardwood floors, Jodie made her way in the kitchen with Kairi on her hip.
Warming up the mash potatoes that Kairi had took a liking to, Jodie made sure it wasn't too hot or cold before scooping some up into the miniature spoon and placing it into her mouth. Kairi's tongue moved against the roof of her mouth adorably, savoring the taste before making a noise for more.
Jodie stared down at her briefly with a small smile on her face before grabbing the bowl of the soft food and going into the living room. Placing Kairi into her highchair she fed her some more before picking her up and laying her down onto the couch.
Jodie's top lip reached her nose at the foul odor that leaked out of her diaper. "Ew fat mama. Daddy must've fed you some beans last night." Kairi smiled wide revealing her gums and growing front teeth.
After cleaning Kairi up and trashing the dirty diaper into the trash, Jodie found herself talking to the small child while rocking her to sleep.
"I wish I remembered when I was a baby." She stared down at her, rubbing her hands through Kairi's wild and curly hair.
"Enjoy being a child and don't try to grow up so fast okay, fat mama? When you get older you're gonna want to be grown but when you actually are grown with responsibilities, it's hard. You're gonna wish that you was still getting your ass wiped by mommy and daddy." She giggled slightly but that halted when the front door opened, revealing a tired Keyaan.
He smiled that enchanting smile making her blush slightly. She was thankful for her high level of melanin because if she was two times lighter he would've caught her.
"She sleeping? She been giving you a hard time?" He asked, dropping his toolbox onto the floor and making his way towards them.
"No, she's a good baby. She never gives me a hard time unless she hungry or needs cleaning." Jodie mumbled. Keyaan took a sleeping Kairi from her arms with a nod and kissed her forehead causing her to stir a bit before cuddling more into her father's chest.
Jodie smiled at the small interaction before standing to her feet and making her way into his bedroom while he went into Kairi's to lay her down. Pulling on her shoes, Jodie made sure she had packed everything she'd brought but stopped and looked up when she heard, "Where you going?"
She chuckled lowly while zipping the bag. "You do know that I have a place of my own right?"
"I'm aware. You don't have to leave right now though." Turning her head slightly to the side, she raised one eyebrow.
"I've been here for two days Key. Although your bed is extremely comfortable," She placed the bag onto her shoulder. "I miss my own boo."
The frown on Keyaan's face was clear as day but he quickly shook his head and walked into his attached bathroom. "I understand. I'll hit you up later I guess." He spoke lowly making Jodie feel bad.
Walking over to him she wrapped her slim arms around his body from behind, not caring about the car oil that covered his attire. "I'll be back this weekend. I promise." Unwrapping her arms from him, he brushed past her into his room and began digging in his dresser for some lounging clothes.
"Keyaan I-"
"I heard you Jodie." He stated blankly. Without another word, he went into his bathroom and closed the door. Jodie scoffed and shook her head at his immature behavior. He'll get over it, she thought. Grabbing her phone that she'd managed to purchase with her left over money she went into Kairi's room that was decorated in gray and pink, with cute elephant stickers coating the walls.
Jodie leaned into her crib and kissed her forehead, whispering, "Night fat mama." She closed the door quietly behind her before opening the front door but jumping to see somebody standing there, preparing to knock.
Jodie smiled nervously towards Imari as she stood there with a confused expression. "Jodie right?"
"Yeah..Imari?"
"I haven't seen you in a while," Imari giggled nervously scratching the back of her neck. "What are you doing here?"
"Visiting a friend." Jodie kept it short. Imari didn't know of Jodie and Keyaan's past or the fact that she had been watching Kairi in her spare time and something told Jodie to keep it that way. She hated drama and although Imari seemed like a sweet girl, she looked as if she was missing a few screws.
"Oh, well okay. It was good to see you." Imari spoke, sending a fake smile towards Jodie and walking around her to get into the home.
She slammed the door, leaving Jodie alone to sigh and continue her short journey to her car. Unlocking her phone Jodie went to Keyaan's message thread and without thinking her fingers typed rapidly across her screen, carelessly pressing send.
(9:52 pm) : Looks like I didn't have to stay after all. Your company is here.
She shook her head not caring if she sounded bitter. Stepping into her car she placed on her seat belt while closing the door. Pulling out the space, she flew down the rode like a bat out of hell.
