After applying her makeup, Jodie stared at herself. Her reflection still showed that she was broken but her heart was healing. Her life was changing for the better and she was loving every bit of it.

She hadn't been having dreams about Rakim lately which was a plus. She never wants to relieve those tragic moments in her life again. She was just happy to finally get away from that sorry excuse of a man.

She was also just excited for her big day. She didn't have friends at all but she planned on spending her birthday catering to herself and herself only. She was the realest friend she's ever had.

As far as Jodie was concerned, Jazzy was far from a friend to begin with. Her crackhead ass, Jodie thought rolling her eyes.

Jodie had completely quit her job. She put her two week notice in and bounced. She was surrounded by negative energy every time she worked. She was sick of the slick shots being thrown her way also.

Most of them being about how she's playing "house" with Keyaan and mothering someone else's child.

She ignored them most of the time until one day Jazzy decided to be really disrespectful and talk about Kairi. That was the day she snapped and wrote her notice in.

For those two weeks off of work, Jodie focused on going back to school for cosmetology. Lucky for her she had her GED.

Putting her makeup up in its proper location Jodie walked out of her bedroom. She was finally in her apartment.

It wasn't much but it was something.

Grabbing her keys she locked the door behind her and trotted down the stairs to the parking lot. Passing by a couple of men she felt herself stiffen in fear and tried her best to shake it off.

She was finally able to let out a sigh of relief when they didn't bother her. That is, besides the whistles and cat calls.

After getting in her car and pulling off, Jodie made her way to the local nail salon to get a fill in.

This had to be one of the best if not the best nail shop in Harlem. She use to go there all the time as a teenager.

Jodie was lost in thought but was pulling back to reality from the vibrating of her phone. Looking down briefly, she quickly slid her finger across the phone, answering it.

"Yes?"

"When you coming home Jodie?" Smirking, Jodie couldn't help the smile that played on her lips.
