After having the first huge row with Aaron, I stormed off to bed. He was furious that I had brutally beaten that boy even though I tried to explain I couldn't control it. I think he saw the danger in what I could become and seen a little bit of himself and tried to snuff it out straight away. It was my birthday the next day, I was turning sixteen, not that he knew or cared. My alarm woke me up and I went downstairs for breakfast. Aaron was already waiting for me at the dining table. We discussed how I need to control these skills, and not lash out in anger. Although I agreed, I hated the way he tried to control me and make me act like he wanted. He found me a school to go to, Modern High, and gave me a leaflet. It looked good enough for me, and they were more than happy to let me carry on with my exams. Before he closed the front door behind him, he turned to me and said sadly,
"Have a good life. Please put what I've taught you to good use."
He closed the door. I ignored what he had said as I was in deep thought while reading the leaflet. I wanted to make new friends so badly and I was confident I could do it now. I then realised what he had said. I leaped from the chair like a spring and ran to the door. It swung open but I was too late. I watched in awe as my last family member abandoned me, on my birthday. I was sixteen and so knew how to take care of myself. Aaron had taught me how to survive. He taught me how to cook, clean, shop, maintain the house, and pay bills. I didn't know Aaron well enough to get fully attached, but knowing he was my last blood relative was heartbreaking. I slumped back into the chair, now understanding why my father hated him.
At least he left his apartment in my name, and after cooking breakfast and searching the house, I found lumps of stashed money in his drawers upstairs. Enough to survive on at least. I got everything I needed for school, locked the door and set off on a long walk. I left the house earlier so I could pick up some clothes from a nearby shop on my way. I bought a comfortable black and white hoodie, some blue jeans and some white trainers. These, being the only clothes that I had for the moment, I wore for a while. In this school you could wear anything you liked, and the fact that everyone didn't know me made it even better. I arrived at school on time and went to my first class, where I made my first ever friend.
