"So...Jonas Goldberg?" Harvey asked

"That's right, the one and only"

"It would be a game changer for you here"

"I know"

*a few seconds of silence*

"Do you think I will make it here?" I suddenly asked him, I was not one to be vulnerable but something about that night and being under such pressure to impress at the firm had me wondering

"I think you're on the right track" he looked at me warmly

"Thanks" I replied genuinely

"Already have Logan Sanders on the palm of your hand, managed to sign a few clients since you came onboard and if you get Jonas Goldberg...well" I smiled at his remark

"I'm exhausted" I exclaimed as I grabbed a glass of water from one of the trays and took a big sip from it "this is exhausting" I gestured towards the crowd around us

"I know"  he looked towards the skyline

"Let's go" I said impulsively

"Where?"

"I don't know just... somewhere different" he looked at me skeptically "oh come on the party is practically over" still no response from him "well then, I'm leaving" I took one last sip of water and walked out of the rooftop, waited for the elevator to arrive, entered and marked the Lobby button on the panel. As the doors were closing, a hand appeared right in time to stop them from closing and as they re opened Harvey stood right in front of me with a complicit expression on his face

"I thought you weren't coming" I smiled at him

"Like you said, the party was practically over" he broadened his shoulders and readjusted his jacket

Harvey walked onto the street and extended his arm hailing a cab

"What are you doing?" I asked mockingly

"I gave Ray the night off"

"I brought my car" I showed off the keys in my hand and the alarm beeped a few feet behind me

"Where are we going?" He asked as I started the engine

"I don't know"

"Where would you like to go?" I asked iquisitively

"You tell me you were the one who dragged me out of the party" he suddenly focused on me

"I think drag is a stretch" I ignored his stare looking at the road ahead

 (...)

I found the perfect parking spot right in front of where I wanted to go, I stopped the car and swiftly got out as did Harvey a few seconds later

"What's this" he gestured towards the neon pizza sign in front of the store

"For being a lawyer you sure make a lousy reader" I opened the door and entered the deliciously fragranced space leaving Harvey outside

"1 plain slice and a coke please" I said to the cashier as Harvey finally entered the place and stood besides me

"What do you want?" I asked as I took a $20 out of my bag

"Um...plain with extra cheese and a coke" I handed the cashier the money and we moved down the counter to get our delicious pizza slices

"So we left the party for this?"

"How dare you" I put my hand on my chest as if I was offended by his remark "I was hungry"

"There was food there"

"Not like this" he laughed as we took a bite out of our slices and sat at one of the booths at the back of the pizza place

There was something funny about the juxtaposition of our fancy outfits against the fact that we were eating a cheap pizza at midnight on a Thursday night but hey that's New York City for you

(...)

"Mmm... so good" I licked my lips and took one last sip of my coke

"Pretty good but I have to admit this wasn't the first thing that came to mind when you said we should get out of the party"

"Right, I imagine that phrase has a different outcome for you 99% of the time"

"Usually yeah" I giggled

"You should stop that"

"What?" I asked as I pressed my lips together making sure I had no leftover pizza on my face

"Biting your lip" I felt his eyes on my lips

"I didn't know I was doing it" I coyly answered

"Let's go" he said and stood up from his seat heading towards the car as I followed like a lost puppy, I turned on the car and headed towards Harvey's place without another word being mustered on the way there between us

"Home sweet home" I said as I parked the car in front of his building

"Do you want to have a drink?"

"Sure, one drink"

(...)

It had passed more than an hour since I went up to Harvey's apartment and I was on my third drink which meant there was no way I was driving out of there, he had put some R&B and was showing me some of his records I sat with my feet on the couch and had taken my heels off as he was on the other end playing another vinyl

"Let me see that" I crawled on the couch with my glass of whiskey in one hand and grabbed the record cover on the other I started reading the back of it, turned my back to Harvey and instead of crawling back to my spot on the other side of the couch I laid my back on the comfy cushions and my head  found itself resting on his thigh

For a moment I felt him freeze as a result of my unexpected position, he had taken off the fancy suit jacket and undid his shirt 3 buttons resulting in exposing the tan skin beneath it. I felt the rhythmic breathing of his body underneath me and it synced up perfectly to the beat of the soft music. It wasn't as if I had planned to lay my head on him but it just felt nice and uncomplicated.

"Tell me more about him" I handed him the album cover back as I referred to Miles Davis

He started talking and mentioning interesting facts about the song and Miles Davis's career, I looked up at him and his sharp jawline distracted me from the movement of his lips eventually, his deep and smooth voice started to sound less and less audible and I could swear I felt his fingers running through my hair as my eyes were heavy from all the late nights I had done the previous days.
