Chapter 2

Time seem to have flown by it was already 5:00pm and I wasn't ready yet.. The guest was due to begin arriving at 7:00pm I had to get on the ball. Our team is the Bomb everyone was on their post everything was coming together beautifully I couldn't have been more grateful... Now I just pray that the people coming will open their hearts and the checkbooks and support my kids. The dinning hall looked amazing the food smelled wonderful and it was almost Go time. 

I brought a Blue 2- piece pants suit with yellow accessories . I love representing one  of The Best Sororities in the world Sigma Gamma Rho  and of course most everyone know that my favorite color is blue so my outfit for tonight was a no brainier. The suit was conservative well tailored and said I'm ready for business, the yellow brought out a softer kinder side to the piece. I placed my hair in a natural twisted up-do and to set it off I had on Blue and yellow two tone pumps.. Last but not least I dabed on my Light Blue By Dolce & Gabanna and some poppin lip gloss I was now ready to dazzle them or at least I hoped. 

I had a little self talk before I made my entrance, looking in the mirror.. saying "look girl you got this pull yourself together pull your shoulders back and remember who you're fighting for..  Said a quick prayer and I made my way in the room.... God Help Me!!!!!!  I walked in around 7:15pm the room was already full we invited about 300 people from every organization and community business sector in the North Nashville Community area. From the police dept who's had to arrest some of my kids but also serve as mentors to many of them, the local Gyms, and community centers directors such as Looby , Hadley Hartman and East  which had provided tutoring, mentor-ship, summer job placement, job training  programs and scholarships for my kids. Our community business owners, teachers, and local councilman our Mayor was invited Senator Thelma Palmer and many others who I know have fought for our children and for their well being.   

In mingling and making my rounds meeting and greeting our guest, the turn out was amazing and now we set our focus on meeting our goal?  I was determined to give it my all too much was at stake.  Troy was responsible for the money part of it. In checking on the silent auction we had already raised over $10,000.00.. That was amazing but the donations that Charles had gotten were Awesome. The music was flowing people were mingling and networking, it was going wonderful...I shook hands with I think every person in the room. Mrs. Penelope Peoples CEO of Peoples Inc which supports several non-profit groups in our area. I had not gotten an opportunity to submit a grant to their organization as of yet but I definitely  plan too.. Hello Ms. Ellis this event is very quaint and a very impressive turn out I might add.... I've heard so many positive comments about your organization and the kids you work with. Thank you so much but it's my kids, they make you want to go that extra mile their trust and love in me and for me  is unbelievable and I couldn't do what I do without them and the support of many of the people here.   So tell me Ms. Ellis,  and just as she was about to begin a deeper conversation (at least I  thought)  she stopped and grab the arm of the most finest chocolate Black Man I've seen in God knows when... My God I almost swallowed my damn tongue he stepped over with this tailored smoke grey suite with vest a pair of ALDO shoes and Creed cologne I almost fainted but hey I kept my composure. Micheal come here for a moment I would like to introduce you to Ms. Ellis the CEO of  'Teach One Reach One Program" and the host of this wonderful event,   this is Micheal Higgins CEO of Higgins & Higgins Construction one of the biggest construction companies in the State of Tennessee.  Hello and I shook his hand very firmly hopefully not giving away that my knees were bulking and I had this nervous sick feeling. Hello Ms. Ellis it's so nice to meet you I'm hearing a lot of good things about your programs here and have had chance to actually speak to some of your kids they think a lot of you... No it's them they are my heroes it appears they beg to differ,  you Madame appear to be theirs, well I hope that what you've heard is enough for us to gain your support most defiantly Micheal said as he took her hand in his and gave it a very soft and gentle shake.
