Katherine's POV (Thursdays)
I just finished one of the new books I got last week and closed it. Sure, I was sitting in math class and I was supposed to be paying attention in class but it's not like I need to, I memorized the lesson when we learned it last class.
I raised my hand and my math teacher, Miss Dodson, called on me. "Yes Katherine?" she asked with a scowl on her face. That woman was pure evil. She was nice to no one.
"Can I go to the library?" I asked her.
She sighed, "You can't just go to the library in the middle of the lesson."
"But I already know the lesson." I whined.
She crossed her arms, "If you can tell me degree of the monomial 8, you can go."
I smiled, "The degree is zero. Can I go now?" I asked, getting impatient.
Miss. Dodson narrowed her eyes, "Yes. And pick up your cousin on the way back."
I picked up my books and walked out the door, thinking about what Miss. Dodson said. Valerie got in trouble again. It's like her mouth has no off switch. She says what she wants, when she wants, and pays the consequences. This is the seventh time in two days she's been sent to ISS.
I walked down the hallway, my long, dark brown hair flying behind me as I listened to the squeaking of my sneakers. I turned a corner, climbed up a few flights of stairs, and walked in the library.
I threw my books in the return bin and picked out five new ones. This should be enough for the rest of the week. I thought to myself as I checked out and walked down to the ISS room.
I walked in the room asked the ISS monitor, Mrs. Jone, if Valerie could leave.
Walking down the hallway with my cousin was, awkward. Our dad's are brothers so we both have the same last name. Plus we're in the same grade. Do you know how many times we've been asked if we were twins? Too many.
We walked in to the classroom only to see that nobody except Miss. Dodson was there, bones surrounding her. Then, the craziest thing happened.
Miss. Dodson transformed. Her eyes turned red. Not the red my eyes turn when I get mad, my eyes change color depending on my mood. Her eyes glowed red.
Her skin seemed to pull back on her skeleton, making the shape of her skull visible. Her fingers turned into talons and her teeth into fangs.
She's a dark one. I thought. A dark one is one of us. One of what I am. They just decided to turn to the dark side. And lost all of their beauty for more power. I would never become one of them. Ever.
I turned and remember that Valerie was still in the room, a mortified look on he face, "Valerie! Get out of here!" I yelled.
"B-b-but." she stammered.
"No buts." I pushed her out I the room, shutting and locking the door. Catching a glimpse of Valerie's face looking through the door window as I turned back towards the monster.
"Did you kill them?" I growled and pointed at the pile of bones on the ground.
She laughed, well cackled, and glared at me. Her red eyes seemed to bore into my soul. It was creepy. "Dear Katherine, you're one of the only ones who actually know what you are. The other's will come to you for advice, and you will lead them. I wonder what they would do without a leader."
She hissed and lunged at me, but before she got the chance to kill me, I killed her.
When I was born, my parents gave me this necklace. It's a silver necklace with a leaf on it. I've always had it and figured it wasn't that important, just a family heirloom. Until two weeks ago. When I found its true powers.
My hand flew to the leaf on the necklace. I concentrated all of my energy, and I could fell the magic activate.
I felt the thin tree roots sprout from the leaf and tie themselves around my neck, molding it to my neck. My eyes flashed about six different colors and the wings sprouted from my back. They were the same colors that the leaves turn in the fall. Orange, gold, red, green, brown, purple. The six colors that swam together on my wings were the same colors that my eyes turned depending on my mood. The colors of fall. My season.
I flicked my hand out and a tree root sprouted from the ground, wrapping around the dark one's arm, pulling her down to the ground.
I walked over to her, making more roots grow on and around her. "Maybe you shouldn't try to mess with me, or the others. I don't know who they are, but I know that even the weakest of us would be able to destroy you with both hands behind our backs and blindfolded." I snarled. The roots were starting to grow around her neck.
"Watch out for your little cousin Katherine." she smirked.
I stopped the roots, "Valerie, she's another one."
"Maybe. Have a good day Katherine." And with that she disappeared and the roots retracted back into the ground.
I silently cursed myself. Why did I let her distract me? I was so close to getting rid of another dark one.
I took a deep breath and the wings and roots disappeared.
Ring-ring! That would be the bell. I picked up my stuff and turns towards the door, only to find Valerie standing in the door way. I ran over to her but she took a step back. "Val, it's not what you think." I pleaded.
Her face showed pure hatred, pure fear. "You're a fairy. And according to whatever that was. So am I."
A/N: YAY! I'm awesome. Friday's tomorrow. Either Sydney will be posting, or I will be posting again. Picture of Katherine in the side. And maybe a picture of her necklace. Bye!
Sincerely, Kamden.
