Katherine's POV

Do you have any idea how weird it is to walk into a room and see your cousin get shot? I'll give you a hint. It's really weird.

**Flashback type thingy**

After the other three had left, Oliver scampering after Clara like a lost puppy, I decided to check out my wonderful society.

I walked a little ways away to a metal door. The door that led to my people, my society, my kingdom. Wedged under the door was a single leaf, granted it was dead, but, whatever.

I reached my hand out to the door. When I got about an inch away, my hand glowed a bright auburn color. My hand touched the center of the door and it transformed. The single leaf stuck beneath the door multiplied, and those multiplied, and those multiplied. Until the entire door was replaced by a bunch of stacked up leaves.

Name and ID please. A robotic voice spoke in my head.

"Um, Katherine Link and...I don't have an ID." I said. Although the weird thing was, I didn't speak in English. I spoke in some weird language I've never heard before. The language of my kind. Every society has a separate language. I thought.

How I knew that? I have no idea. This day was just straight out weird. I decided not to question it as the door of leaves swung open and I stepped through.

The door of leaves closed behind me and I heard the click of a lock. "It opens again. You're not stuck here forever."

I spun around to see a lady standing there. She looked about 23, with short, caramel colored hair in tight curls that barely reached her shoulders. Her eyes were the color of a bar of chocolate. She was wearing a maroon colored dress that went down to her ankles, her orange wings protruding from her back.

I raised an eyebrow quizzically at her "And who would you be?"

She chuckled and stuck out her hand, "I'm Lauren. Lauren Milson. I'll be your secretary and mentor through all of this."

I pushed her hand down. "I don't do handshakes. And I don't mean to sound rude. But, aren't one of my family members supposed to be my mentor?"

Lauren's face fell, "Katherine. You don't have anymore living family members in the Autumni Society. Your mother died a few weeks after you were born, your grandparents passed away before you were born, and your father isn't a fairy. Your mother broke society rules and had a child with a nonborn."

I blinked, taking it all in. Does that mean I'm technically not supposed alive? I pushed the thought aside. "A nonborn. A person who's not a fairy." she nods so I continue, "Well, I appreciate the thought. But I don't need a mentor, or a secre-" I was cut off by a hand, a hand that reached through the leaves and pulled me straight through the door.

I yanked out of this person's grasp, and whipped around to see their face. It was a, as Oliver would call them, freezoid. Pale skin, dark hair, the works. The guy's voice shook as he spoke, "Queen Katherine. You have to come quick. It's Valerie."

**Flashback Type Thingy Over**

I pushed into the room and saw Valerie lying there on the floor, blood staining her clothes. "Valerie!" I exclaimed as I rushed over to her side, a tear leaking out of my eye. I saw that she had been shot. She must have been smart enough to turn, because she was shot in her side.

I gathered myself together and stood up, looking around at the people. "WELL," I ordered, "SOMEONE GET HER TO A HOSPITAL, OR A HEALING HUT OR, WHATEVER YOU PEOPLE USE HEAL PEOPLE!!"

A few of her people picked her up gently and carried her off. Everyone else following, leaving me alone. I collapsed on the floor, sobs racking my body as I broke down.

That was all it took. I knew exactly who had done that to her, and that was the final straw.

I sat up, dried my eyes and slowly stood up. Only to hear a familiar voice speak from behind me, "I'm coming with you."

I spun around to see Oliver standing in the doorway. How he got in the Hibernis Society? I have no idea.

I put my hands on my hips, throwing my hair over my shoulder with a jerk of my head, "I don't know what your talking about."

He took a few steps closer to me, his blue eyes boring into mine, "Don't be coy Katherine. I know you. Probably better than you know yourself. You want vengeance. And I'm not letting you go alone."

"Okay. I'm just gonna forget what you said and get back on topic. You're not coming."

He took another step, so now his face was only a few inches away from mine. "Yes. I am." His breath smelled like spearmint, my favorite scent and flavor. His eyes sparkled with some kind of accomplishment, like he knew I was going to cave. Which I was.

I sighed, "Fine. Meet me in front of the entrance to Autumni in four hours." I spun on my heel, hitting him in the face with my hair. And disappeared in a flurry of leaves.
