Peter! You are the valedictorian of this class! Where the fuck are you? Graduation starts in fifteen minutes and if you're not here, we have to let Flash make the speech!" (Y/N), Peter's best friend, screeches into the phone as Peter holds it away from his ear trying to regain his hearing.
"I'll be there in five minutes, (Y/N). Don't worry. When have I ever let you down?" Peter asked but he knew that he's let her down plenty of times.
"Quite a few times but I know it's because you're out saving the world." (Y/N) sighed as she kicked a rock from the sidewalk. "Tell me at least that you're safe with no bruises."
"I might have a couple..." Peter trails off and (Y/N) groans quietly as she hears Michelle calling from the background that the ceremony was about to begin.
"Listen Peter, I know saving the world is important to you and trust me, I want nothing more than for you to do that but it's time for you to shine as Peter Parker. You've achieved greatness in high school and I want you to have your big moment. So do me a favor and hurry the fuck up." (Y/N) lectured as she hung up the phone. Peter chuckled as he made his way towards the school using his web shooters.
Peter always wondered how he was able to balance out his double life. In fact, he wasn't sure how he became the valedictorian after missing so many classes but it was possible because of (Y/N). She was always there to give him his assignments and help him study for tests. Sometimes he wondered what he would do without her and of course his other best friend, Ned Leeds. Mr. Stark also helped a bit because he signed every community service form Peter had whenever he did a good deed and gave him an internship. However, (Y/N) holds a much more special place in his life.
Suddenly Peter hears an old lady's cries as someone was stealing her purse. He immediately slings over to the criminal and chases after him. Peter shoots one of his webs as the criminal is pulled backwards and hit the ground.
"You know it's not nice to steal from the elderly. It's considered rude but I guess you'll learn proper manners when you go to prison." Peter cleverly remarked as he grabs onto the man's arms and ties him up with some web cartilages. He grabs the purse that the man dropped from the ground and makes his way over to the old lady.
"Thank you so much, kind boy! Do you want a churro?" The old lady asks not waiting for a response and quickly grabs a wrapped churro from her purse.
"Oh. Uh sure! Thank you!" Peter takes the churro and remembers that he has a place to be. He waves a quick goodbye to the woman and runs off to the school.
"Where is Peter?" (Y/N) wondered as everyone took his or her seats. The principal was giving her a look mentally asking where Peter is. All (Y/N) could do was shrug as she looked at her phone impatiently. The principal sighs and heads to the podium.
"Hello everybody! Thank you for being here today to support the Class of 2017 embarks on their journey to adulthood. Not many people believe me when I say that I remember when they were just freshmen because I've seen so many classes come and go but trust me every one of these kids stood out. I'm so proud of them for what they have accomplished." The principal smiled as she looked around to find the valedictorian. (Y/N) nervously bit on her nails trying to look for Peter in her seat.
"(Y/N), where's Peter?" Michelle asked in her seat.
"I have no idea...but he better hurry because Flash looks like he's ready to take the spotlight." The two both glimpsed at Flash as he had his notecards in his hand.
"I may hate Peter, but I hate Flash more. Tell that dweeb to hurry up." Michelle exclaimed as (Y/N) whipped out her phone and formed a text.
"Unfortunately our valedictorian, Peter Parker is not able to mak–" The principal is interrupted by a certain superhero by the name of Spiderman.
"Hello! Sorry to interrupt, but Peter wanted me to give his speech and grab his diploma on his behalf." Peter lied and (Y/N) literally rolled her eyes knowing that he didn't have enough time to change into his cap and gown.
The principal was at awe looking at the young superhero, but she had to compose herself for the school, "As much as I would love to hear Peter Parker's speech coming from Spiderman, I would have to say no because it was Peter's responsibility to show up here on one of the most important days of his life."
"Let him do the speech! It's Spiderman, who wouldn't want to hear from this legend!" Flash exclaimed as he put his notecards away. (Y/N) was surprised that Flash would easily give up his spot just so he can hear Spiderman talk. He must really admire him.
"Very well." The principal sighed as she stepped off the podium to let Spiderman make Peter Parker's speech. (Y/N) was nervous but she knew that Peter could do it.
"Hey everybody! I'm Spiderman and I will be giving Peter Parker's speech. Here it goes," Spiderman grabs notecards from his strangely convenient pockets. "Hello, I am Peter Parker, your valedictorian. These four years of high school have been rough on all of us but I can assure you that these four years were four years well spent. We were able to build relationships and make memories with one another that will last a lifetime. Good or bad, it is something that we will continue to cherish for the rest of our lives."
Peter took a deep breath and continued on with his speech, "For me, I will be able to look back at high school as the years that I realized who I wanted to be. I wanted to be a good person. That seems pretty mediocre because there is a very valuable reason as to why I want to be a good person. I want to be a good person because of everyone that I encountered in high school. I don't want to let any of them down and I want them to know me as someone who was capable of doing great things. Thank you to those people because now whenever I look back at the memories we've shared, I will use that as inspiration to keep moving forward."
"High school was hell. I'm not even going to sugarcoat it but you know what else is hell? The real world but let me tell you, I have no doubt in my mind that we can all survive another piece of our journey. For four years, we strived for greatness and we will continue to do so. So congratulations to the Class of 2017! Let's move into the future for the rest of our lives!" Peter screamed and everyone cheered as they smiled brightly at the words their valedictorian had to say.
"Thank you, Mr. Spiderman. You can sit where Peter was supposed to." The principal motioned her hand to the open seat in the front.
The ceremony went on and everyone got his or her diplomas. Everyone was overwhelmed with excitement that high school was finally over and his or her lives were about to begin. Everything seemed hazy.
"Congratulations Class of 2017!" The principal shouted as everyone excitedly lifted their caps from their head and threw it up in the air except for Peter but he was still pretty excited that he made it to his graduation.
(Y/N) tried looking for the masked hero after the ceremony but couldn't find him. She ran around to the school and tried to look around for her friend. She started looking at the field wondering where he could be. Suddenly, she felt a slight tap on her shoulders causing her to jolt in surprise.
"You seem awfully eager to find Peter." Spiderman teased as he was upside down on his web. (Y/N) rolled her eyes as she crosses her arms.
"You know, I'm still pissed off at you! You couldn't stop saving the world for one day just so you can make it to your graduation!" (Y/N) nagged as Peter rolled his eyes behind the mask.
"I was here, (Y/N). Chill out for a second." Peter tried to reassure but then (Y/N) became very defensive.
"As Spiderman, Peter. When will people finally start recognizing you as Peter Parker? I wanted you to have your special day as just Peter, but I guess the great Spiderman wouldn't let him rest just even for a day." (Y/N) said softly as Peter smiled.
"The thing is (Y/N), there's not a difference between Spiderman and me. We're the same person because we both want the same thing and that's to be good people. The whole world doesn't need to know that Peter Parker is Spiderman." Peter explained, as he took of his mask still hanging upside down.
"But why?" (Y/N) questioned.
"Because you alone is enough for me to feel appreciated as Peter Parker. I love you, (Y/N). You are the only person that made me realize who I wanted to be and that was a good man. Not for the world, but for you." Peter stated as (Y/N) grabbed his face into her small hands. She softly kissed his lips as they molded together. Every thing that they were feeling was brought together in that one kiss that united them.
(Y/N) broke away from the boy and smiling delicately as she says, "I love you too Peter."
"I want you to know that for four years, I only thought of you as a good person. No one in this world can change how I think of you." (Y/N) whispered against the boy's lips.
Peter knew in that moment that high school may have been rough but at least, he had the love of his life by his side the whole time.
