Nathaniel's POV:

*********

When my Alpha ordered me to accept the invitation, I believe the countenance I wore on my face would be wide eyes, mouth agape and my feet rooted to the ground, holding my breath until I could finally register his words properly. It's not every day I could find myself in such a position and so one could understand how baffled and shocked I was.

It's been 27 hours since then and now on our way to the party, myself seated in a prodigious limousine at the rear end, facing His majesty that looked just as handsome as he'll ever be in a classic genuine leather stylish party tuxedo along with a bow tie, you could say my form was just as that of my previous state minus the countenance. After the Alpha had taken the control of the organisation, this is the first time in three years that I'd be assisting him to this particular gathering and it's rather hard to digest the actuality. The cold look directed at me from his side pulled me out of my stupor.

After about an hour, we reached the venue where the ball is being organised that is The Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile. As soon as the car doors were opened, a bunch of reporters encircled us. Of course, it is bound to happen as our Alpha is presenting them with his first public appearance. All the while, the guards clearing the way, we entered the hotel. A sweet melody drifted through the lively ambience and everyone present were rejoicing their evening with a glass full of champagne. Each of us was given a mask at the entrance. Various pianists, violinists and harp players were at the bend of the foyer making the air lovely with their vivacious composition. I have attended various gatherings and this one by far would be the crest of them all or maybe it has something to do with the specimen beside me. Turning towards the Alpha, he is busy absorbing the surroundings impassively save for his eyes that looked as if searching for someone.

"Good Evening Mr. Winfred and Mr. Grayson. It's truly a pleasure meeting you both," said Mr. Randall shaking our hands with a bright smile.

"Evening Mr. Randall" the Alpha said and I added "Good Evening Mr. Randall. It is a pleasure to meet you as well. I must say the soiree is exceptional."

"Thank you Mr. Grayson, but the credit goes to our young CEO Miss Sapphira Alicia Williams. She is the one who has added a tint of life to this party with her noteworthy organisation" he finished with a slight chuckle. The Alpha beside me stiffened and I did not fail to notice his jaw twitching as if he was trying hard to resist something. I simply choose to ignore it given I cannot ask him about his state and so I faced the elderly man before us to continue, "Miss Williams doesn't seem to be anywhere here. After all she is the hostess of this party."

"That she is and she should be here at any moment. She is upstairs dealing with something that came up last minute. I reckon there are many here who would like to meet you. I hope you both enjoy the evening." he stated.

Our conversation was interrupted by a phone call to the Alpha. He excused himself to take the call and soon I indulged in exchanging pleasantries with the men around, while Mr. Randall left to greet other guests. All of a sudden, the lights went dim and a person in blue tuxedo took the centre stage capturing everyone's focus.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for joining us this evening and I sincerely appreciate you being here by sparing us your valuable time. I hope you are enjoying this refreshing evening. Let's turn it a bit more pulsating for which I kindly request you to put on your masks and get ready for the splendid masquerade ball." The speaker said filling the crowd with excitement.
