It's been a while but I want to actually finish this story! I don't want to mess with what I had originally written too much, but I do get better as time goes on. (At around the Blind Bandit/Avatar Day chapters specifically.)
.
"Well, this could have gone better". And it was true.
Mizumi was currently running away from a street vendor, well more like the officers that the vendor had called.
"Oh come on, I said I was sorry!"
And she was...
Sort of.
You see Mizumi is a stubborn girl and she can be a bit hot-headed. As you can imagine, these two things don't mix well.
She was hanging around some kids from the city when they decided to have a little fun, only their version of fun is not what she had in mind. They went to a small square in which many vendors situated their carts and decided to make a competition of who could steal something without getting caught. Naturally Mizumi wanted no part in it, but at the prospect of being called a chicken (or some type of chicken hybrid at least) she decided against leaving and just stood to the side. When her turn came, she hesitated and thought seriously about leaving, but as soon as she did so much as pause to think, one the kids started to say how she was too much a goody two shoes and a kiss up to even dare, causing the others to join in.
And here's where the hotheadedness comes in. This ticked Mizumi off, and when Mizumi is ticked off she doesn't make the best decisions.
"Yeah, I bet lil' Zuzu is too much of a nice little princess to even think abou-"
"First of all, that's not my name, second, sure I'll do it."
And so it happened, all too fast to be remembered. One moment Mizumi was near a cart with small pottery, getting closer and closer; the next one of her "friends" called out for everyone in the vicinity to hear "LOOK, SHE'S TRYING TO STEAL SOMETHING", and it was too late to turn back, because Mizumi had already grabbed a small vase and to make things worse, in her shock she dropped it making it shatter.
So this is why she was only sort of sorry, I wasn't really her fault... In a way...
And so here we are. Running wasn't exactly Mizumi's forte so she needed a way out and fast. And she found it.
"Yue!" she screamed as she ran too her white-haired, startled-looking friend, "Yue! Hide me!"
"Zumi," Yue said exasperated, "What did you do now."
Zumi, as Yue called her, ran to hide behind her friend as soon as she looked back and didn't like what she saw, "No time to explain! Just help!"
"Princess, you know this girl?". The officers had finally caught up, but were surprised by what they saw; it wasn't everyday they saw the Princess of the Northern Water Tribe hiding a scoundrel.
"Yes," she said importantly, "unfortunately" she added for herself, and though Zumi heard her she was too terrified to protest, "she is my closest friend, and sometimes she just gets a bit carried away. I'll make sure whatever damage she called is paid for."
The officers looked uneasy, "Are you sure, Princess?"
"Yes, officer, thank you". And with a curt bow they were on their way.
As soon as they were out of sight Yue turned around to face her friend, "Now I'll ask again; what did you do?"
And with a sheepish giggle Mizumi recounted the whole thing.
"But why were you with them," Yue asked her friend with a slightly sad tone, "You know you shouldn't-"
"I know, Yue. It's just..." she struggled to get something out, something that was clearly paining her, "It's been so hard for me to fit in, and, well, I just thought they might accept me if I just..."
At these words Yue embraced her friend. She understood what she was going through all too well. Being a Princess, was hard for her to fit in, because while people wouldn't be mean to her, at least not to her face, they usually only liked her for her status.
"Thanks...", Yue always knew exactly what to do, she was the big sister Zumi never knew she needed. Zumi was new to the North, which would have been bad enough on its own, but to make matters worse she was born in the South and raised in the Earth Kingdom, and most Northerners had been prejudiced to consider these types of people savages and dirt lovers respectively. But this might have been over looked if she didn't look out of place too.
Mizumi had brown almost black hair, slightly lighter skin than Yue's, which was slightly tanned, and brownish-amber eyes; not exactly a Water Tribe-like description. This was because Mizumi was half Fire Nation.
Because they were in the middle of a war with the Fire Nation no one really took well to Mizumi, that is no one except Yue.
The two girls had met a couple of years ago and though Yue was over a year older that Mizumi, the two had found an immediate kinship.
Now they were like sisters.
After a while Yue grabbed the younger girl by the shoulders and held her at arm's length. "Now Zumi,"
"Here we go...", Zumi said as she rolled her eyes, but Yue acted like she didn't hear her.
"You can't go around breaking the law just to 'fit in'."
"I know, I know," said Zumi waving her away, "but come on, you need to see this new trick I learned!" she said starting to drag her along by the wrist.
"Zumi, you know you're not supposed to be wat-"
"I know that! But this is just too cool and you've got to see it!"
"Hey, now that we're on topic, aren't you late?"
"Late for what?"
"For your-"
"OH NO!"
And with that Mizumi sped off in the other direction, leaving Yue amused , shaking her head in her wake.
