When your parents are immigrants, their English tends to be a bit...broken. It's very common for children to be used as translators, although it can get pretty annoying. Don't be surprised if you see a child conversing with their parents while their parents are conversing with someone else. Most of the time they aren't interrupting and being rude, but are translating.

However, test an asian parent on English Grammar, and they'll beat you on any test, ;p. (Trust me. I know.) This is because in most Asian countries, it has become standard to learn English from Grade 1. *cue the part where my mom whups me on an English test*
