So this might be my personal experience, but there's a thing called a "Chinese school" (if you're Chinese) that you go to as a kid. Otherwise, a native language school.
Now, back when I was in 4th grade and a tryhard...I was actually pretty dang decent at Chinese. I literally memorized entire page long passages (as previously stated, TRYHARD)
Now...I've given up on caring. Completely. I've literally found myself copying my 4th-grade essays for HW because I'm lazy.
Is it bad that my Chinese has progressively gotten worse? At least my parents gave up on caring...
WAIT WAIT WAIT.
Before you judge me on how trash my Chinese is...
I can still communicate with my mom in Chinese on WeChat (without using a translator ;p).
...I need to get to updating. Kinda forgot about this story for a while. Whoops...
