The interactive session was extraordinary. When is it undesirable to talk about your interests and hobbies on television? And the presence of Captain flipping America certainty didn't hurt.
Desirée, for one, seemed content for the first time since you had known her.
You had been called down to the tech room. The public had blown up the news' social media with questions which you were supposed to be answering. Questions about you.....and Steve.
That was when you remembered. Steve had left right after the interview to get something for you two to eat and Desirée had called you down to here.
In the giant maze of hallways otherwise known as the news station, he wouldn't be able to find his own shadow.
You were right. Steve was standing outside the empty panel room, holding a cup of coffee in each hand and a packet of chips under each arm. He was beginning to hate the future all over again but smiled in relief upon seeing you coming in his direction.
You stretched out your hand in order to grab some stuff from him to lighten his burden but tripped on your last step and through some miscalculation of his as well as your immediate reaction, you ended up landing right on his face.
The kiss, if that was what it would even be considered, was very short lived and anything but pleasurable. You quickly pulled away, apologizing and justifying yourself to a very red Steve who was barely paying attention to anything you were saying.
No questions about you and Steve were answered that day.
-
You inspected yourself in the body length mirror. Yeah, you looked decent enough for the party.
With all the awkwardness that had crept between Steve and you since the 'kiss', you hadn't been able to ask him where exactly you were going but you had gone out of your way to ensure that you were going, since you intended to end the coarseness in your friendship once and for all.
"You look beautiful." Steve complimented when he came over to pick you up, right on time of course.
"Why thank you. You don't look too bad yourself. Shall we?" You put your hand out for Steve to take.
"Actually.." Steve stepped inside and lead you to the nearest mirror he could find.
"What are you doing?" Your question wasn't answered with words but rather a swift movement of his fingers placing a delicate chain around your neck with a pendant of the first initial of your name hanging from it.
"You like?" Steve asked, his blue eyes filled with excite. "Y-Yes. But Steve, I can't. It looks too expensive." Your eyes were taking in every single detail of the alluring ornament.
"Nah, it's just something I picked up from 'round the corner while I was passing by." He shrugged, pushing his hands inside his pockets.
If only you would have bothered enough to venture into his mind at that moment, you would have known how much time, effort and money had been invested in that piece of jewelry.
-
"Uh, Steve, I've been meaning to ask, where are we going?" You asked, having been in the car for quite some time. "You didn't know?" Steve unbuckled his seatbelt and walked over to your side to open the door for you.
Apparently, you had reached your destination. You took his hand and got out of the car, only to see the enormous 'A' illuminating the top of the building.
Dang it. You managed to keep a calm appearance though you were cursing up a storm on the inside. You should have known this is where he'd bring you.
Nonetheless, it was far too late to turn back.
-
"So, you're (Y/N)?" Clint asked.
"We've heard a lot about you." Sam mused.
"Only good things." Natasha added.
"Yeah, punk never quits talking about you." Bucky smiled.
"Well, it's nice to meet you all too." You were slightly taken aback by the amount of attention suddenly being thrown your way. Steve sensed it quick and decided to ease your situation.
"Unless you're the ones hosting this party, I'm afraid you'll have to excuse us." He put an arm around your shoulder and gently led you away.
It wasn't long before you were face to face with the host. "This is Tony." Steve introduced, "And Tony, this is-"
"(Y/N)?" Tony's eyes were wide, as if he had seen a ghost.
"Stark." You spat, centering all your energy into not splashing your drink in the man's face.
Oh this wasn't going to be good.
