Your P.O.V

You giggled as you watched the new family of your former home cringe as the sight of blood on the TV. "Boooorrrriinnnggg." You called out, cupping your hands around your mouth. "He's clearly still breathing!" The family continued to watch, unaware of your ghostly presence. You sighed and, rolling your eyes, left the room.

Although you had only been a ghost for only 5 years, you found being restricted to your small New York apartment with a family of three was making you roll in your grave. You had complained to your case worker, Juno, and luckily, she offered you a job and an office as a case worker. Perhaps she just needed another worker or perhaps she had pitied you, dying from sleep deprivation. A surprisingly normal way to go for a college student.

Floating into the child's room, you picked up a piece of chalk and make your way over to his large blackboard in the corner of the room. Drawing a door and a handle, you knocked on the door and make your way to the office of the dead. As you stepped into your office you were greeted by the few objects you had been able to transfer from your apartment before it had been cleaned out. You sighed and plopped down in your chair and closed your eyes, the edges stained black from lack of sleep.

Almost immediately, your time of silence was shattered as Juno opened your door. "Guess the dead don't really sleep do they?" You mumbled to her. Juno scowled. "No rest for the wicked. Now sit up I have an assignment for you." You raised your eyebrow, letting it hide underneath your uncombed hair. You leaned back in your chair. "And what might that be boss?"

Juno took a long smoke of her cigarette. "I'm putting you in charge of a new division. As you know, lately we've had many close calls with the dead and the living." You nodded. "The Maitlands." Juno nodded. "Exactly. Now all I need you to do is sort out which of your underlings go to which new couple based on their personalities." Two large football players walked in the room and dumped two equally large piles of paper on either side of your desk. A final player walked in carrying a stamp set with names on it.

Juno pointed to the stamps and the first pile of papers. "These are the underlings you will have. Simply stamp their name onto the document with the newly dead that you think are most compatible with their own." You slumped down in your seat and hit you head on the table. "Oh grow up!" Juno snapped. "You want to go back to your apartment?" You quickly sat up. "No mam...." You looked up at her. "But is there anything else I can do? Something that's not... how do I put this gently... boring beyond reason?" Juno scoffed. "Well if that's the attitude your going to have young lady you can sort out all of this paperwork today AND you can run an errand for me."

You slumped your shoulders and pouted as Juno described your task. "There's this man I need you to talk to. Now I warn you he doesn't work well with others but I need you make him sign this." Juno handed you an old sheet of paper, yellow with age. You glanced up at her as she make her way to the door, her three football players jogging ahead of her. "Let's go coach!" One yelled. "No running in the halls!" Juno yelled at them.

As Juno stepped outside your prison-like doors, you looked up from your desk, paper in hand. "Wait how do I contact him?" Juno looked at you solemnly. "Say his name three times." You opened your mouth but remained silent as Juno raised up one of her fingers. "BUT you must refuse to let him leave this room until those papers are signed. If you let him go there will be consequences." You tilted your head. "Like what?" Juno smiled. "You'll be fired." She said, her voice colder than death. Juno stepped back and closed your office door slowly. If your heart was still beating it would be pounding. "His name's Beetlejuice." She said before locking the door to your office.

Nervously, you turned the old paper in your hands before looking up. The hall in front of you was empty now. You got up from your desk and checked the door. Yep. Juno had locked you in and the only way out was to get the signature of this Beetlejuice fellow. Opening your mouth slowly, you chanted the name. "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, ...Beetlejuice." Almost immediately, a large cloud of green and grey smoke filled the space in front of you. "HEY HEY HEY! What do we have here?" A voice of a man broke through the smoke.
