Chapter 3
By the time Jack got to the school it was already 3:30 so most of the Junior High students had cleared the area. Jack parked in the front of the school in the teacher spot and strolled right on into the office. He went to the old attendance lady with a right scowl on his face. Jack left his sunglasses on just in case his eyes would reflect his mood. Jack cleared his throat, “I am here to pick up Brody Wilder. I am to understand there was some trouble?”
Before the attendance secretary could answer the presented question, the principal, Dr. Hayes came out of his office, “In here Mr. Wilder.”
Jack nodded his head ever so slightly and advanced towards the principal’s office that he was oh so familiar with. Upon entry Jack saw Brody and James sitting across from each other. James had a shiner on his left eye while Brody had a bruised lip. Immediately the oldest Wilder whirled around on the principal, “What happened?”
Jack was suddenly glad he remembered his sunglasses because he could feel the power behind his voice and new immediately that his eyes had turned a shade or two darker. Dr. Hayes kept an even persona saying, “Please Mr. Wilder sit down.”
Jack growled back, “I'd rather stand, if you wish to remain standing you will quickly inform me of how my brother came to harm under your watchful eye.”
Dr. Hayes gulped a little at this response saying, “Why yes I can understand your frustrations Jack, but there is honestly quite the story to be told here. First I would like to say both of these students will be properly pun-”
Jack sat down abruptly, “Unless your intention was to use the word pun I highly suggest you consider the rest of your line very carefully. If you even dare to finish the word punish without explaining to me what happened you will see so many lawsuits hitting your desk tomorrow morning, and you will be looking for a new job come Wednesday afternoon, do I make myself clear.”
The oldest Wilder could be quite intimidating when he was angry. Especially to someone who didn't really know how protective he was of his younger brother. Dr. Hayes nodded his head, “Crystal clear Mr. Wilder bu-”
Jack shifted his look over to his brother, “Brody I want to hear the story from your perspective first, then if Mr. Hayes has something to add I will gladly listen.”
The message was clear and Brody immediately began talking, “Right after school James and I were talking to Francesca and Tiffany, when two older kids, presumably freshman came up and started hitting on them. You know that James and Tiffany have a thing for each other so James starts getting protective and told the older boys to well...umm...He told them to f off and I am paraphrasing of course. The older boy didn't like that and took a swing at James, as you can see his eye can prove that. At that point I shoved the boy backwards and swept out his leg when his buddy through a quick hit and got me right in the lip. After that I took care of business as dad taught us.”
Jack looked suspiciously at his little brother, “You've never mentioned a Francesca before, what are you leaving out?”
At this point James through in his two cents, “Look Jack don't be upset with Brody. I should've learned to keep my cool and not need Brody to fight my battles. I didn't mean to get either of us in trouble; I just wanted to protect our…friends in a word.”
“So what are you in trouble for? More importantly what is Brody in trouble for Dr. Hayes?” Jack said Dr. Hayes dangerously as if warning him to think of what was going to come out of his mouth next.
“I am sure you remember Mr. Wilder that this school holds a zero fighting tolerance policy, two fight and two go. As you ca-”
Jack held up his hand to silence Dr. Hayes, “Pardon me Brandon Hayes, but if I am to understand right you are going to punish my brother for defending his best friend from bodily harm and himself a long with two other students.”
