Chapter 20
*Warning Mostly Fluff, but highly significant to the story line*
Lying under the stars is a beautiful thing. Lying under the stars with someone very important to you can bring about life changing conversations. That was the situation Jack and Brody Wilder were in. The two sat by the fire staring up into the sky. The animals were still following Brody around, but at least now the boys knew that they weren't there to harm them, but to witness something great and pure. The unicorn comes and goes, but most of the other animals followed the boys all day.
The night was silent, even the conversation was silent, but that would only last for a few moments, “I am going to have to train with you harder than I first thought. Wizards are very sought after people, they are supposed to be able to see the future. Did you see any signs?”
Brody shook his head in aknowledgement, “Thor thought I was. He spoke to me telepathically, he bonded with me as my familiar. He comes to visit me pretty regularly at the manor. I've learned to ride him, he has told me many things, about the last Wizard that was born. According to Maghteana we haven't had one born in the family since Arcturus had his first son. David I believe he said his name was. I was told David was given extraordinary gifts of not only seeing the future, but seeing people for what they truly were.”
Jack looked at his brother in surprise. Mostly he was surprised that no one had mentioned to him that his brother was riding griffins, and that one had even bonded to him, yet no one said a word about it, “What do you mean for what they truly are? You mean like you can see a necromancers true form?”
Brody sighed, “Its not that easy. Seeing Jonathon was the first time I actually ever had seen one face to face. It only flickered for split seconds, but it was clearly distorted. I kind of thought I was losing my mind until it unveiled itself in the arena. Then I knew that it was all legit.”
“Why didn't you tell me?”
Brody shrugged his shoulders, “You were already so stressed, you didn't need to hear about my supernatural abilites yet. I knew I would tell you out here, that is if we got the chance to come. Once you were forced to kill him, I thought you wouldn't be taking me out here.”
“This was important, not just to you, but to me as well. We haven't been out here since the funeral, I have been feeling further and further apart from our parents, I just wanted to come out here and remember what everything was like when we were normal people, living in a normal world, with only partially strange problems. I loved our life, even though it felt empty, we had each other, that was all we really needed.” Jack explained to his little brother.
Brody looked at him strangely, “That is some serious soap opera stuff you just laid down there, and I won't touch that with the thirty foot stick I could probably conjur. I understand what you are saying, but I feel really close to mom and dad in the house, I feel like I can still feel there prescense. Heck man I can still feel our prescense from when we were children. I can just sense that kind of thing.”
“Can you control it? I don't really know what we are going to do with all this. I thought we were going to have enough problems keeping me safe being a sorcerer and the leader of the light. I doubt there have been many families has ever seen such power in one generation. You are the first Wizard in nearly three centuries, myself a sorcerer, with only maybe two or three others in the world. I do worry about our safety. If I could have it my way I would just take our friends and run, I know we would make it, but the question would be for how long? How long before they took over. Without us I have feeling the others wouldn't last very long. For some explicable reason I think the dark magician is keeping us alive for the soul reason to give him a good challenge. That sounds terrifying, but I think it is true.”
